American industrial rock band

Jesus Loves Junkies is an American industrial rock band formed in Tucson, Arizona in 1994. Its only member is singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Jeff Wambolt, who assembled a live band to perform in a live setting. The band’s mysterious nature, appearances in compilation albums and complex compositions have earned them a cult following.

The band has remained underground since its formation in 1994. Through the years they never signed to any big labels, releasing all their material through Jeff’s own label, Misanthropolitan. About this Jeff stated:

I was horrible at marketing. Looking back, a “band” starting out would get a collection of songs, continue to refine them while playing shows / gaining notoriety. I liked composing and recording more than playing shows. My favorite thing in the world was to be alone, making music. I am not saying we should’ve been signed, but it was never a priority. It would come up but then the strategy would always be backwards.

With the most accurate information coming from Jeff himself through the band’s Discord server, and the band’s official mediums being created fairly recently, a lot of speculation and rumors have grown around the band and its live members.

The band’s output was extremely prolific in the 90’s, having released eight studio albums and two EPs between 1994 and its dissolution in 1999. Jeff reformed the band in 2023 and is currently preparing a new studio album.

The band’s musical output is characterized by its lo-fi recording quality, with most, if not all of it, recorded by Jeff alone in his own home-made musical studios. The music has been described as industrial rock, industrial metal and electro-industrial, drawing similarities with bands such as Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson.

Jeff has cited Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails and Skinny Puppy among his influences for Jesus Loves Junkies’ music.
