Jet Le Parti (born 1999[2] in Columbus, Georgia) is a German-American visual and sound artist, poet, and founder of the gallery and label initiative Base 36. Based between Berlin, London,[3] and Bushwick, Brooklyn, Le Parti works across painting, sound, performance, and writing.[4]

Early life and education

[edit]

Le Parti was born in Columbus, Georgia, and grew up on Fort Benning, a large U.S. Army installation near the city. He later attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied philosophy and cognitive neuroscience.[5][6]

His academic background and interest in phenomenology, critical theory, and physics have informed his multidisciplinary approach, combining conceptual frameworks with sensory experimentation.[7]

Le Parti’s paintings focus on philosophical themes. He primarily works as an independent artist and exhibits through the gallery initiative in Brooklyn called Base 36.[8]

His paintings include various works in his Melting Blues series,[8] To Be Hung (2022),[9] and others.

Le Parti’s work was exhibited in the Veiled Constructions: Dark Perceptions of the Human Experience exhibition at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in May 2023.[10][11]

Le Parti’s poetry focuses on the existential and philosophical themes that are also present in his visual art.[12]

Le Parti is also a sound artist and experimental composer. His sound art is characterized by minimalist and avant-garde styles that combine drone, ambient, classical, spoken word, and techno genres.[13][14][15]
