João Ferreira Lopes Aleixo (born 4 April 1972) is a Portuguese politician and business executive affiliated with the Chega party. Since 3 June 2025, he has served as a member of the Assembly of the Republic, representing the constituency of Portalegre.[1]
Before entering parliament, Aleixo worked in the marketing, sales and retail sectors, serving as CEO of Laura Varela Mirpuri Holding and as Marketing and Sales Director of Tempus Internacional, the Portuguese representative of the Swatch Group. He founded the consultancy StrategicEdge in 2023. Within Chega, he has held several internal leadership positions, including President and former Vice-President of the Party Convention and National Council. He also served in the Municipal Assembly of Lisbon from February to November 2025.[2]
In the 2025 Portuguese legislative election, he was the party’s lead candidate for Portalegre, with Chega winning 29.90% of the vote in the district.[3] In the 2025 local elections, he ran for Mayor of Portalegre but was not elected.[4]
Early life and education
Born in Cabeção, Mora, in the Alentejo region. He holds a degree in Business Management from the Catholic University of Portugal and an Executive Masters in Digital Marketing from INDEG/ISCTE.
Business career
He began his professional activity at Unilever in sales and marketing. He later became Marketing and Sales Director at Tempus Internacional, the Portuguese representative of the Swatch Group, and subsequently served as CEO of Laura Varela Mirpuri Holding. In 2023, he founded the consulting firm StrategicEdge.
Political career
Joined Chega in late 2019. He has served in multiple party leadership roles:
- President of the Party Convention and National Council (2024–present)
- Vice-President of the Party Convention and National Council (2023–2024)
- Member of the National Jurisdiction Council (2021–2023)
- Member of the Lisbon Municipal Section (2020–2021)
He was elected to the Assembly of the Republic in the 2025 legislative election as Chega’s lead candidate for the Portalegre constituency.[5]
In the 2025 local elections, he ran for Mayor of Portalegre and received 6.73% of the vote, an increase of 4.78 percentage points compared with 2021, but was not elected.[6]
