Les chemins de ma maison (transl. ”the paths of my house”) is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer Celine Dion. It was released in Quebec, Canada on 7 September 1983, through Saisons and distributed by Trans-Canada Disques. The album was produced by René Angélil, Eddy Marnay, and Rudi Pascal. Les chemins de ma maison topped the chart in Quebec for nine weeks and was certified gold in Canada. In 1984, it won Best Selling Album of the Year at the Félix Awards. The first single, “Mon ami m’a quittée” also reached number one in Quebec.
Background and conception
Les chemins de ma maison includes ten songs.[1] Five of them, produced by Eddy Marnay and Rudi Pascal were recorded in Paris, France and the remaining five, produced by René Angélil were recorded in Longueuil, Quebec, Canada.[2] The album includes eight new songs and two covers: “Ne me plaignez pas”, a French version of Sheena Easton‘s 1982 track “Please Don’t Sympathise” and “Mamy Blue“, a 1970 song written by Hubert Giraud.
Commercial performance
The album reached number one in Quebec and stayed at the top for nine weeks.[3] The first single, “Mon ami m’a quittée” also topped the chart for nine weeks. On 1 November 1983, Les chemins de ma maison was certified gold in Canada by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA).[4] In total, the album sold over 100,000 copies.[5]
Accolades
On 28 October 1984, Les chemins de ma maison won Best Selling Album of the Year at the Félix Awards and was nominated for Pop Album of the Year.[6] Dion also won Female Vocalist of the Year and was nominated in category Artist of the Year Achieving the Most Success Outside Quebec.[6]
