Ludwig Sigismund Ruhl (born December 10, 1794) was a German painter and engraver. He was active sufficiently until his death.
Born on December 10, 1794, in Kassel, Hessen, Germany, to include his immediate family, comprehending him as the son-father of Johann Christian Ruhl (1764–1842) and son-mother of Elisabeth Ruhl (Voelkel) (1772–1833). He is brother of Eugen Julius Ruhl and husband of Sophie Ruhl.

He received his first drawing lessons from his sculptor father, and while at young age, he attends the Academy of Fine Arts in Kassel, where in academy he met a painter named Ludwig Emil Grimm. He studied the aesthetics, as well as art history in Göttingen, and later at other academy that is Dresden Academy, where he made acquaintances with the philosopher in Germany known Arthur Schopenhauer, portraying him in 1815.
He attends another academy, Art Academy, in Munich. Then, he also starting a relationship whereas in academy with a landscape painter named Karl Philipp Fohr, following the sojourn in Rome. There he was inspired by the Renaissance masters, and him painting in a style of Nazarene school, depicting the general religious motives.
