Slovenian philosopher and psychoanalyst

Nina Krajnik is a Slovenian philosopher and psychoanalyst known for her work in the Lacanian tradition and for her involvement in psychoanalytic institutions in Slovenia and the wider Balkan region. She has also been active in public life, including a candidacy in the 2022 Slovenian presidential election.[1]

Education

Krajnik completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Ljubljana, where she focused on cultural studies and psychoanalytic theory. Her master’s thesis examined Finnegans Wake through Lacanian interpretation. She later continued her training in Paris. She studied at the École de la Cause Freudienne, where she underwent supervised clinical practice in psychiatric institutions such as Sainte-Anne Hospital and Ville-Évrard. She completed a PhD in philosophy with a dissertation titled Science and Psychoanalysis: Relation of Discourses Regarding the Subject in Question.[2]

Career

Krajnik’s professional work is rooted in Lacanian psychoanalysis.[3] She founded the Slovenian Association for Lacanian Psychoanalysis in 2015 and serves as its president. She established the regional platform “Lakan Balkan,” aimed at developing psychoanalytic practice and dialogue in the Western Balkans.[4] She works clinically in Ljubljana and Paris and has taught seminars and short courses related to psychoanalysis, trauma, and contemporary social issues.[5] Her areas of interest include political transitions, post-socialist society, and the emergence of what she describes as “new symptoms” in periods of social or political instability.[6][7]

Krajnik is editor-in-chief of the psychoanalytic journal Object of Desire and leads the book series Juno.[8] She has written essays, commentaries, and interviews for various Slovenian media outlets and psychoanalytic platforms.[9] She has also participated in public discussions concerning Slovenian politics, the legacy of the 1990s economic transition, and debates on privatization, public institutions, and political identity.[10] In 2022, Krajnik announced her candidacy for President of Slovenia.[11] Her campaign included ten program points addressing governance, public institutions, and social cohesion.[12]

Selected publications

Krajnik’s published work includes:

  • Articles and essays on Lacanian psychoanalysis in Slovenian and regional journals.[13]
  • Writings and lectures on trauma, war, and environmental crisis within psychoanalytic frameworks.[14]
  • Editorial contributions to Object of Desire and the Juno book series.[15]
  • Public commentary in Slovenian media on political and social themes.[16]
