Pakistan and Iran on Friday vowed to enhance cooperation to eradicate terrorism in the two states and reiterated their firm commitment to peaceful means of dialogue and diplomacy for the resolution of all outstanding disputes around the world.
Pakistan and Iran share close ties and have signed multiple agreements across sectors such as energy and trade. The two sides also expressed eagerness to further foster cooperation with each other in the fields of mutual interest.
The commitments were made when Speaker of Iranian Parliament Dr Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a statement from the PM’s Office said.
“Both countries condemn state-sponsored terrorism and have always supported each other in the wake of unilateral aggression against their sovereign states”, the statement quoted the PM as saying.
The prime minister said Pakistan and Iran had unfortunately been victims of terrorism; thus, they firmly shared the resolve of global peace, prosperity and positive cooperation in the region.
“Pakistan and Iran are determined to work in cohesion and cooperation for the unity of the Muslim Ummah,” he added.
He warmly welcomed the delegation and recalled the cordial bilateral ties with the brotherly Muslim country of Iran.
The PM also extended utmost reverence to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pazeshkian.
Dr Ghalibaf expressed his gratitude to the prime minister, the government and people of Pakistan for their valued and well-placed support in the recent Iran-Israel conflict, the statement added.
He said the support shown by Pakistan to Iran in the 12-day war against Israel was deeply appreciated and cherished by the people of Iran. “Iran and Pakistan firmly believe in the unity of the Muslim Ummah and in the message of global peace,” he was quoted as saying.
While expressing special gratitude to the Speaker National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, the Iranian speaker cherished the positive and robust cooperation between the parliaments of both countries.
He also expressed Iran’s commitment to further enhance bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in the fields of economic development and trade.
The Iranian speaker conveyed a message of warmth and reverence from Iranian President Masoud Pazeshkian for the PM and people of Pakistan. He also expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him during his visit to Pakistan.
In August, President Pezeshkian visited Pakistan. During his visit, Islamabad and Tehran signed 12 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs).
