Australian judge of the Federal Court of Australia
The Honourable Justice Patrick O’Sullivan is a judge of the Federal Court of Australia, sitting in the Adelaide registry. He was appointed on 20 January 2022 after service on the District Court of South Australia and leadership roles in the Australian Bar.[1][2]
Early life and education

O’Sullivan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Adelaide and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the South Australian Institute of Technology in 1981; he later completed a Bachelor of Applied Science at Charles Sturt University in 2002.[1]
O’Sullivan was admitted in 1981, practising as a solicitor at Lynch & Meyer and becoming a partner in 1983. From 1988 to 1992 he served in Hong Kong as Crown Counsel and then Senior Crown Counsel. Returning to Adelaide in 1992, he was a partner at Fisher Jeffries before joining the independent Bar in 1997. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2008 and served as a judge of the District Court of South Australia from 2018.[1] He is a past President of the Australian Bar Association and of the South Australian Bar Association.[3][4]
O’Sullivan was appointed a judge of the Federal Court on 20 January 2022.[1][2] A ceremonial sitting of a Full Court to welcome him was held in Adelaide on 22 March 2022; the Court has published the transcript.[5] His appointment is also listed on the Court’s page of judges by date of appointment.[6]
