Canadian philosopher
Peter Loptson is a Canadian philosopher whose work spans metaphysics, the philosophy of human nature, and the history of philosophy. He is professor at the University of Guelph in Ontario, having previously taught at the University of Saskatchewan. [1]
Loptson’s scholarship emphasizes how historical philosophical systems continue to address enduring questions about existence, nature, and human identity. In works such as Reality: Fundamental Topics in Metaphysics (2010) he examines core metaphysical concepts like substance, essence, causation, time and freedom. [2] Meanwhile in Philosophy, History, and Myth: Essays and Talks (2002) he offers a more reflective collection of essays exploring topics such as materialism in mind philosophy, the end of history thesis, and the role of myth in human understanding.
