Sudu Appachchi (Dear Granddad) (Sinhala: සුදු අප්පච්චි), is a 2024 Sri Lankan Sinhalese drama film directed and produced by Rodney Widanapathirana for RW Productions.[3][4][5] It stars Gamini Samarakoon in titular role and child artist Avishka Wijeratne in the lead roles with Ishara Wickramasinghe, Rupa Pathirana, Ranjith Ranasinghe and Kelum Dharmadasa made supportive roles.[6][7]

This is the third cinema direction by renowned journalist and teledrama director Rodney Widanapathirana,[10] who previously directed the films: Ira Sewaya (2015) and Hima Tharaka (2017) and two unfinished films: Shilpa Denu Mena and Saagara Tharanga.[3] The film is also produced by himself for RW Productions as well as wrote the screenplay and lyrics.[7] Malan Widanapathirana made dialogue and assistant direction.[11][12]
Cinematography done by Mahendra Senaratne with the assistance of Sandun Hewage in Italian shootings,[13] Chaminda Dissanayake and Ranga Kariyawasam, whereas editing and animation done by Pasath Samaraweera, Ranjith Ranasinghe by art direction and composition. Lighting assistant and dialogue recording handled by Geethanjana Ranawaka, sound management by Viranga Ketapearachchi, background narration by Akash Widanapathirana and event coordination by Kelum Dharmadasa.[11][12][7]
Music direction composed by Visharadha Manoj Peiris, where Keerthi Pasquel accompanying by Sadew Santhula, Tharudini Methsaura, Thenuka Alagiyawanna and Kithmini Kulathunga.[11][12][7]
Shooting completed in the Ehetuwewa area of Galigamuwa amidst COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka in 2021, where few shots in Italy.[3][13]
The film was screened in Vidarbha International Film Festival in January in Nagpur, India.[6][14] The film was released on 20 June 2024 in Ridma circuit cinemas island wide.[7][15]
