Multiple sources refer to this as the “Davao Oriental earthquake” [https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/topstories/regions/961959/aftershocks-davao-oriental-earthquake/story/], [https://www.rappler.com/philippines/mindanao/davao-oriental-earthquake-updates-news-information-areas-affected-damage-aftershocks-october-2025/], [https://www.inquirer.net/457404/live-updates-davao-oriental-earthquake/], [https://newsinfo.inquirer.net/2122796/1-person-dead-in-davao-oriental-quake], [https://www.sunstar.com.ph/manila/pnp-activates-emergency-response-after-davao-oriental-quake]. I think the current title is misleading because it suggests the earthquake occurred in [[Davao City]], which was not the epicenter. <span style=”font-family: Georgia; background-color: maroon; padding: 2px 3px 1px 3px;”>[[User:HurricaneEdgar|<span style=”color: greenyellow”>HurricaneEdgar</span>]] [[HurricaneEdgar|<span style=”color: greenyellow”></span>]]</span> 07:48, 10 October 2025 (UTC) |

:Most news sources here are calling it as “Davao Oriental earthquake” since the usual practice for media agencies is to name the province closest to the epicenter, usually determined in the automatic solution provided by PHIVOLCS. |

This news article predicted the Earthquake / Tsunami 3 days ago. [1] 64.16.13.2 (talk) 03:15, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- Should this source be added to the article in the tectonic setting section?
🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter")04:20, 10 October 2025 (UTC)- No, it isn’t a scientific prediction, it’s a general purpose article that quotes one person. It could be used as a source, I suppose, but they aren’t saying anything in the article worth sourcing. No need for padding the article. Dennis Brown – 2¢ 06:31, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
This Article is a general Article about earthquake threat in the Eastern Visayas. Neither is this a prediciton, nor is Mindanao in the Eastern Visayas.185.13.31.131 (talk) 05:28, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, but what should be included here is relevant information about the event itself, not predictions. HurricaneEdgar 05:33, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
We felt it up in Dumaguete, 300 miles / 500 km away. Shook the house up pretty good. I’m following sources, but not much coming out just yet. SunStar reported the Gmall in Tagum was shedding some concrete from the exterior wall. Videos out showing pretty strong shaking in Davao city itself. Dennis Brown – 2¢ 03:59, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- We will see where the sources settle, but it seems most are calling this the “Davao Oriental earthquake” instead of Davao earthquake. Dennis Brown – 2¢ 04:30, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

- Another suggestion is “Davao region earthquake” given that all Davao region provinces (Oriental, De Oro, Del Norte, Del Sur, and Occidental) experienced the quake, though this will still cause confusion even to Filipinos who will always refer “Davao” to the city, not the region nor the Davao-named provinces. Multiple sources refer to this as the “Davao Oriental earthquake” [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]. I think the current title is misleading because it suggests the earthquake occurred in Davao City, which was not the epicenter. HurricaneEdgar 07:48, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

- We are kind of bound to follow the sources, what they are calling it, not our own judgement, and I don’t see “region” being used enough to justify it. Dennis Brown – 2¢ 08:24, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
- Agree – I don’t feel particularly rushed, but this does seem to be what the local media uses in particular, and I think we have to defer to the local sources. International media just says Philippines earthquake half the time (as they generally lump everything that way, in a country of 120 million…), not differentiating it, but I think they are picking up on the local name as well.
