:::::You have dug into it a lot more than I did. Just having spent a bit more time on this, I see that there’s only a very passing mention to the character on [[List of Homestuck characters]] and she’s mentioned as Jane Crocker not Betty Crocker. Again, good sourcing is critical especially when the edits are quasi-vandalism just intended to leave their mark on a page, not make a meaningful contribution.[[User:Bangabandhu|Bangabandhu]] ([[User talk:Bangabandhu|talk]]) 22:16, 4 August 2025 (UTC) |

::::::Jane Crocker is actually a distinct character. It seems that page doesn’t mention Betty Crocker as a character much at all. Or any of the major villains for that matter (except for a mention of Lord English under “Other characters”). [[User:Brokemia|Brokemia]] ([[User talk:Brokemia|talk]]) 20:38, 25 August 2025 (UTC) |

Is it worth mentioning the brand’s role in the plot of Homestuck? It is a fairly significant pop cultural literary work, after all.2601:642:C481:4640:0:0:0:2346 (talk) 19:30, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
- No. It is non notable and has been repeatedly removed from the entry. Bangabandhu (talk) 22:37, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
- how exactly is it not notable. articles regularly mention places in which their subjects have been mentioned in literature. 2601:642:C481:4640:0:0:0:7A4E (talk) 08:01, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
- I agree, the entry in its current form is very short. Adding the blurb back would not clutter the article and is demonstrably consistent with wikipedia practices on other topics. Given the company is out of business, there is unlikely to be any additional developments on this topic. The homestuck reference literally postdates every single event and reference on the article. - You just a hater tbh ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 2607:EA00:107:200C:BCA2:4CFC:2E07:CF3 (talk) 03:42, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don’t understand this concern about notability. Homestuck is a major work of fiction with several wiki pages devoted to it, that continues to influence fiction (for example: https://reactormag.com/gideon-harrow-and-mr-bones-wild-ride-tamsyn-muir-on-writing-necromancy-and-fanfic/). UnknownCytoplasm (talk) 01:14, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- I will note that none of the edits mentioning Homestuck that I have found are properly cited, and do appear to be fandom brigading. On the other hand, Betty Crocker’s in Homestuck is notable enough that it has been mentioned in several news articles, albeit obliquely. In my opinion, it would be worthwhile for Wikipedia to document why those mentions occur, although it is hard to find a secondary source outlining the role of the fictional Betty Crocker corporation within the universe of Homestuck. This is strange because Betty Crocker in Homestuck is roughly analogous to the Emperor in Star Wars. 73.126.4.155 (talk) 03:40, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- The above comment is mine as well, I had accidentally opened this page in a private tab while researching this issue. I just wanted to head off any accusations of sock-puppeting by admitting an honest, albeit sloppy, mistake. UnknownCytoplasm (talk) 15:28, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

- Yes. The media section could use some content about Betty Crocker’s notable cultural impact, that’s what it’s for. LesbianTiamat (talk) 04:35, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
- Its only notable to the small but passionate group of readers of some comic book. Their fervor for the name of some character doesn’t confer notability. It could be considered if it were sourced somewhere besides the comic book, but it isn’t, so it fails for sourcing alone. Bangabandhu (talk) 01:48, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- I would argue that the comic is only relatively obscure now; even ignoring WP:Ntemp Homestuck clears the requirements for inclusion by leaps and bounds, being the subject of many newspaper articles; it’s even been written about as recently as last year. There’s also several academic papers (not counting theses, of which there are many) that use it as a corpus/case study.
- This is all to say, while Homestuck is undeniably notable, Betty Crocker plays a major role in the comic’s plot, but is inexplicably only mentioned in passing in a handful of publications besides the comic itself. It’s a bit like if no one bothered to write about the Emperor in Star Wars; sure, he doesn’t show up until halfway through the original trilogy, but it would be shock to find him not meeting notability requirements. As it stands, all I have found are mentions in image captions in the MIT newspaper and an interview with the comic author, none of which seem to meet the notability threshold for the character alone. Is this in line with your understanding of this issue as well? UnknownCytoplasm (talk) 00:24, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- I ask this because this entire issue has made me really deep dive into what is considered notable on Wikipedia vs not; sure, Homestuck is notable, but the Betty Crocker part seems to lack sufficient citations to really be considered. I’ve been digging through news archives because this genuinely does stump me, but from a wiki etiquette perspective I understand where you’re coming from. UnknownCytoplasm (talk) 00:35, 3 August 2025 (UTC)
- You have dug into it a lot more than I did. Just having spent a bit more time on this, I see that there’s only a very passing mention to the character on List of Homestuck characters and she’s mentioned as Jane Crocker not Betty Crocker. Again, good sourcing is critical especially when the edits are quasi-vandalism just intended to leave their mark on a page, not make a meaningful contribution.Bangabandhu (talk) 22:16, 4 August 2025 (UTC)

- Mandarin Wikipedia editor here—I only got to know Betty Crocker because of the reference in Homestuck. The Mandarin version now hosts a translated version of this page with the Homestuck reference under Legacy. RSChiang (talk) 14:10, 29 September 2025 (UTC)
