I think we should reconsider a merger proposal. There is substantial evidence to do so, as the information appears to very identical and becomes needless to have two separate pages. If anyone can give me more information to challenge my perspective on this idea on why we shouldn’t then that would be great. Otherwise, I feel it would be more beneficial to merge the pages. There is a nice page about PAN in the German wikipedia. Should we adopt that?–RolfSander (talk) 06:16, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
I propose merging peroxyacetyl nitrate and peroxyacyl nitrates. Our existing content is very limited and overlaps in scope, so merging may yield a beter page overall. Alternatively, as noted above, the de.wiki article appears extensive and translation could be a better choice, providing a editor with the right skills and be found to manage the changes.Project Osprey (talk) 10:22, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
- Good idea. Not many editors would even know the area, so you’re on your own and probably should do it.–Smokefoot (talk) 22:22, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

- I created this article and am willing to merge in content from the German version. PAN is quite an important species in geochemistry and atmospheric chemistry, see for example https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/earth-and-planetary-sciences/peroxyacetylnitrate for a range of books discussing it. There are about 10,000 references to PAN in Google Scholar. I do find it useful to have separate articles on individual species and families of them. The former get a chembox, have concrete properties and serve as examples. The latter offer an overview of trends and are a good place to discuss the relationship to the rest of chemistry. —Ben (talk) 11:40, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

- I’m a German native speaker and an atmospheric chemist. I’m happy to translate the German Wikipedia article, if we want this. Especially for the non-atmospheric part of the article, it would be good if someone can double-check my translation.–RolfSander (talk) 11:45, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

- I have now translated and added the sections about Atmospheric chemistry and about Synthesis. For the toxicity, I just added a short paragraph. I don’t feel comfortable working on the details of the medical aspects. There’s still work to do…–RolfSander (talk) 08:00, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

- I see another reason for not merging: The PAN page contains a chembox template with detailed information about the compound. Such a template wouldn’t fit into a page that is about several compounds.–RolfSander (talk) 14:10, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

- Closing with no merge given that the article improvements seem to make the merge proposal redundant (and noting that the discussion is stale). Klbrain (talk) 17:02, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
