The article currently uses Pakistan Census 2017 figures. Adding a clearly labelled 2025 estimate would provide up-to-date context for readers. The proposed sentence is explicitly described as an estimate and is accompanied by a citation to the webpage where the figure appears.

what does the lang-pa tag do?

I was about to add a lang tag to the intro, then i noticed it had one: {{langx|pa|پنجاب|Panjāb}} <!—Please refrain from titling this as “Urdu/Punjabi”, as the audio pronunciation available at the moment is Urdu-accented—> what does that tag do? are there other places i should be using it? font for Punjabi and Urdu words

To me the font on the {{langx|pa|__}} looks very Arabic? Punjabi: پنجاب پاکستان i think it’s Arial? پنجاب پاکستان does that look the same in other people’s browsers? but i’m just an English-speaking Australian typeface nerd does anyone more knowledgeable have an opinion? Nastaliq is used for Urdu on en.wiki and used for western Punjabi wiki pnb.wikipedia.org – but personally I find very it difficult to read so i don’t think it’s appropriate for an international (i don’t speak Punjabi, but i’m trying to learn Arabic and Urdu). The font from the lang|ur tag looks good Punjabi: پنجاب پاکستان but i don’t know how to implement that without the tag, which it seems there are good reasons to not use, i.e. the accent from the associated audio not being regionally appropriate? ideas? Punjab is 0.550? Google now says 0.64 to 0.732 43.247.122.200 (talk) 09:13, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article says “The province is home to over half the population of Pakistan, and is the world’s second-most populous subnational entity, and the most populous outside of India and China.” If it’s the second, only one country can be ahead. And why bother naming the country when only one entity is ahead? I think the structure of that sentence dates to about 10-15 years ago when Punjab was the 5th-6th most populous entity, behind different Indian and Chinese entites. It should therefore now adapted and turned into “The province is home to over half the population of Pakistan, and is the world’s second-most populous subnational entity, behind Uttar Pradesh, India.” 109.164.195.131 (talk) 13:55, 4 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Change: *Add nothing currently present*

To: Add the following sentence to the **Demographics** section (for example, at the end of the Population paragraph or the Demographics subsection). Please insert the following verbatim, and include the attached citation.

Verbatim text to add (copy/paste exactly):

“As of 2025, the estimated population of Punjab is about 131 million.” [1]

Rationale:
The article currently uses Pakistan Census 2023 figures. Adding a clearly labelled 2025 estimate would provide up-to-date context for readers. The proposed sentence is explicitly described as an estimate and is accompanied by a citation to the webpage where the figure appears.

Source reliability note:
Nature Explorer is a published online site rather than an official government or UN statistical office. If editors prefer a more authoritative source (for example Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, UN Population Division, or World Bank projections), I am happy to locate and provide an alternative citation. For now I request this addition with the above citation and clear labelling as an estimate.

Requested action:
1. Please insert the one-sentence estimate into the Demographics section exactly as written above, with the provided reference.
2. If editors object because the source is not deemed reliable, please advise and I will supply an alternate, authoritative projection.

Thank you for reviewing this request. AbdulRehman136 (talk) 11:35, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
