I’ll take this one.
Nom is first author.
Earwig notes possible violations. I believe these to be common phrases that cannot be copyrighted.
Going back to 2019 I see no significant edit warring or other stability issues.

Early life is not a good section it spans 1937 to 1999.Czarking0 (talk) 04:06, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Divided some of the later information into a personal life section in this edit.

I find it odd that there are no notable speeches or writing listed. There is an overall lack of information like Eagleton Institute of Politics named him as one of 50 outstanding state legislators in 1974 begs the question for what? I will do a secondary source review to determine if this is worth failing over.Czarking0 (talk) 04:20, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It should be noted that Valdez was a state legislator for only three years at the point and eight in total, including two as speaker. Being an “outstanding” state legislator in the US is a very low bar to pass and a lot of the time they give no major speeches.
  • He returned to Colorado in 1960, and became president of the Steelworkers Local 5099. I think this sentence give the impression that these happened in the same year which the source does not. I think the claim is verified but it should be reworded for better chronological clarity. Czarking0 (talk) 04:11, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I added “later” to the sentence in this edit.
  • In 1981, Lamm appointed Valdez to the commission overseeing redistricting, using his power to select 3 of its 11 members  Done
  • Governor Richard Lamm considered appointing Valdez as Colorado State Treasurer in 1977, but Valdez declined the offer. I didn’t feel like I could verify this with the first source and hit my free article limit for the second source. Can you add a quote for supporting that here?Czarking0 (talk) 04:42, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Per this source “Valez told The Associated Press that he took himself out of consideration”
 Done
  1. Valez discipline on voting in Colorado Springs Gazette 1975 Jan 22 page 3Czarking0 (talk) 04:32, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper Archives April 21, 1971 Page 3 stalls farm labor bill to restrict picketing rights of farm workers. Further reporting Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper Archives April 23, 1971 Page 6Czarking0 (talk) 04:32, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the additional sources. I will look into them and see if I can add anything from them. Jon698 (talk) 19:17, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper Archives April 1, 1975 Page 38 Tax bill
  5. Less notable but interchamber squabble Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper Archives November 28, 1975 Page 52
  6. Somewhat limited but possible idea here Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper Archives May 11, 1976 Page 111
  7. Significant action here Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper Archives January 10, 1975 Page 68. The scheduling issues is mentioned in multiple other sources I checked. There is probably an interesting historical point about how Colorado’s 6-month legislative session came about but it may not belong in this article? Maybe as a background sentence if that was established before his time in office?
  8. Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper Archives March 30, 1976 Page 78, enforcing education budget for bilingual programs
  9. Notable speech Colorado Springs Gazette Newspaper Archives February 13, 1975 Page 119

I think this is enough to start to show that additional coverage and sources are needed.

@Czarking0: I am having some problems finding these articles on Newspapers.com. Is this the correct Colorado Springs Gazette that you are talking about?

Article could use additional images but I could not find any of him that are free. There may be notable / suitable locations associated with his work that should be included. On a related note the existing image is good and I agree that it meets Fair use criteria. Czarking0 (talk) 04:46, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
