I’ve listed this article for peer review because I would like some feedback on what could be added to make it clearer to a general readership.

  • Comment: I know it’s short notice, but as there is nothing special in the line up for Latin Christmas, maybe this could be the hook that day? Alternatively, it could be queued for Orthodox Christmas on January 7th or 8th. Tiamut (talk) 12:27, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is one of those instances where I take a look at the article–its breadth and depth, the sources, the images–and wonder how we did not have it before. I see no neutrality or copyright issues. I think the proposed hook can be much more compact (e.g. “some slipper lamps” instead of “candlestick lamps, a type of slipper lamp”). Perhaps more hooks can be proposed too. Thanks for writing and nominating this, Tiamut. Surtsicna (talk) 17:05, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for the encouraging feedback, fixes to the article page, and suggestion. Would this be be good?:
Yes, that’s very neat! I wonder if we coul squeeze Allah in there as well, Tiamut. Is it lamps (plural) that have been found with both “The Light of Christ shines for all” and “Allah” inscriptions or just one lamp, as the cited source seems to say? Surtsicna (talk) 21:12, 29 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding is its more than one. Further down you will see this occurred on Jerash lamps as well. Also added a second source from Sussman that indicates this phenomenon. So we could write:
Oh, yes. This should draw in readers. Could you quote the sources that support this wording here, please, Tiamut? I also like the idea of running this on the 7 January Christmas. Surtsicna (talk) 01:21, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sussman, 2025 pp. 3, 146. “Figure A (1) Lamp bearing both a cross and a full inscription in praise of the savior (2-3) The inscription bears also the name of Allah in Arabic script (from the Jerusalem Ophel)”
  • Sussman, 2017, p. 1. “Arabic script with the name of Allah written in Arabic letters mingled, on Candlestick type, with the inscription in praise of Christ.”
  • Sussman, 2025, p. 145. “In Jordan we still find Greek inscriptions (eg. ‘The light of Christ is the resurrection’) on this type of lamp, along with Arabic inscriptions (eg. ‘In the name of God …”
Perfect. I like ALT2 best. Thanks, Tiamut! Surtsicna (talk) 19:01, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thank you Surtsicna. Tiamut (talk) 19:59, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
