:I noticed this as well, and agree with you that it is very strange. I was going to make a comment about it when I saw that you had already made one. Strange that you have not received a response from someone who might know the reason for this. [[User:Varoart2005|Varoart2005]] ([[User talk:Varoart2005|talk]]) 00:34, 9 September 2025 (UTC)

::Don’t tell me you don’t know that those two countries are not permitted to show their flags because ITF/WTA/ATP decided that. Because of that, here on Wikipedia we just don’t put the flags on any tennis related articles [[User:Haddad Maia fan|Haddad Maia fan]] ([[User talk:Haddad Maia fan|talk]]) 10:36, 17 September 2025 (UTC)

William Larned won 8 US Open, not 7, as Sears. (US Open champions (Men’s Singles)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.150.45.86 (talk) 09:00, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
I think that there needs to be some information about how the draw is determined. I know that the main draw consists of 64 players; however, there is a qualifying tournament too, from which 16 players are added to the main draw. More details on this would be helpful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrisphillips71 (talk • contribs) 09:20, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
The article tells us that Arthur Ashe was a US Open champion and Billie Jean King was a champion and “pioneer” of women’s tennis. The two statements are insufficient, in the case of Ashe, and imprecise, in the case of King. Either we should state the reasons, which are multi-faceted and complex, in equal detail, or just leave it to the reader to click on the links to the main articles about Ashe and King, respectively. I’d vote for the latter. 2603:8000:8F40:3B08:A00D:55CB:D849:1578 (talk) 15:40, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
- I disagree. They are very short montages as to the personalities, and the links are there to click if readers want more. I did remove the bit about Ashe winning events that were not the US Open. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:47, 24 April 2023 (UTC)
Nothing is said about this. Did sets end at 6-5? Or require a 2-game margin?

It seems like this is the case pretty much every tennis article by some kind of behind-the-scenes arrangement between Wikipedia power users, but it is not stated in the articles themselves.
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia not a lobby group or advocacy organisation, so why is the flag of these players not displayed while the flag of players from other countries is displayed?
Are there other countries wikipedia power users are forcing to have no flag next to their name or is it only the countries of Belarus and Russia? As it stands, it’s just odd and frankly inexplicable why their flag is not included, without assumed or implied knowledge of current geopolitics, or a window into some kind of behind-the-scenes agreement between wikipedia power users. It ought be stated outright in the article if there is a reason for this unusual practice. 203.158.42.210 (talk) 13:14, 31 August 2025 (UTC)
