The media team at Hương Đạo Vipassana Bhavana Center told me today (via email) that asking for a new holiday is NOT TRUE. Please remove any reference to asking for a holiday from this Wikipedia page. |

The cited reference [2] is no longer accessible and originally pointed to an Associated Press article dated January 11, 2026, authored by Deepa Bharath. That article itself contains inaccurate information, stating that the monks “will ask Congress to recognize Buddha’s day of birth and enlightenment as a federal holiday.” |

I received direct written confirmation today from the media team at Hương Đạo Vipassana Bhavana Center that this claim is not true. The monks are not seeking recognition of Buddha’s birthday (or enlightenment) as a federal holiday. |

Because this claim is false and supported by a broken citation, it does not meet Wikipedia’s verifiability or reliable sourcing standards. I therefore propose that all references to the monks asking for a federal holiday be removed from the article. |
