Guillaume Guillon-Lethière
The Death of Virginia (French: La Mort de Virginie) is an 1828 neoclassical history painting by the French artist Guillaume Guillon-Lethière. [1] Set during the Roman Republic. It depicts the death of Verginia, in the Roman Forum during the 5th century BC. The painting is based on the writings of the later Roman historian Livy in his History of Rome .
Gllon-Lethière worked on the painting from 1825. It was exhibited at the Salon of 1831 at the Louvre. It was acquired for the Louvre collection in 1848 [2]
