Thomas Jones Howell (died 1858), who edited the ‘State Trials‘ (vols. xxii. 1815-xxxiii. 1826),[1] was born on 24 December 1793.[2] He was admitted of Lincoln’s Inn on 9 November 1814 (Register)[3] and called to the bar by the Society of that Inn on 17 May 1822. He was Judge Advocate and Judge of the Vice Admiralty Court at Gibraltar in 1822, Secretary to the Commissioners of Colonial Inquiry in 1830, Commissioner for the West India Islands’ Relief in 1832 and Inspector of Factories in 1833.[2] He sold Prinknash to James Ackers in 1847.[4] He died at 6 Eaton Place West, London,[2] on 4 June 1858 (Gent. Mag. 1858, ii. 93). He married twice (in 1817 and 1851). He was the son of Thomas Bayly Howell.[1]
