Pakistani producer, director, and IATAS elected member

Umair Haroon is a Pakistani producer, director, and elected member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (IATAS), the organization responsible for the International Emmy Awards.[1] He is known for launching Pakistan’s first forensic science-based investigative TV series.[2][3][4]

Early Life and Education

Dr. Haroon was born in Karachi, Pakistan. He earned his MBBS degree from Sindh Medical College in 2006. In 2015, he completed fellowship training in forensic medicine at Dow University of Health Sciences. He is reported to be the first Pakistani to pass the examination and obtain Diplomate status from the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators.[5][6] He later completed a master’s degree in Public Health from the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST).[7][8]

Career

Dr. Haroon is the President of Metro1 News and executive director of Voice of Sindh.[9][10] In media, Haroon has produced over 200 productions including dramas, short films, documentaries and songs on ethics, history, and social awareness.[3][4][11][12] His works include Sindh Meri Jaan, Jinnah Tum Durust Thay, and Tareekh Kay Musafir.[5]

His publications include Voice of Sindh [10] and The Story of Indus Civilization (ISBN: 978-969-23550-0-1).[13][14]

Awards and honors

  • Sitara-e-Pakistan Awards (2021) – Best Producer [5][14]
  • Award for Distinguished Contribution to Legal, Forensic, and Scientific Awareness through Media – Karachi Bar Association (2025) [11][15][16]
  • Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Awards (2022) – Best Producer / Director of The Year[17]

He is also a member of the United Producers Association and the Arts Council of Pakistan.[5]
