Hello! Just wanted to ask for a bit of clarification on the removal of the members info from the infobox; I am sure I am the one who is mistaken in including it, I’d just like to clarify it. The Hobbit obviously does have a very different tone to other Legendarium content but it’s meant to be part of that same continuity. I know it is framed as Tolkien’s translation of Bilbo’s Red Book, and thus information can be unreliable, but the three trolls are seen in The Lord of the Rings by the Hobbits and Aragorn as well. Is it the English names which are the issue? Sorry to bother you, just wanted to ask so I don’t repeat the same mistake in the future. :No worries. The trolls are rather sharply discontinuous between TH and LOTR. In TH they speak, they sound like English working class, indeed Cockneys; they live like tramps in the woods and steal sheep and mainly squabble amongst themselves; and they seem to be entirely independent of any lords and masters. In LOTR they are silent, definitely Sauron’s enslaved warriors, and unquestionably on the side of evil. Shippey is good on all this. The 3 TH trolls reappear, dead, in LOTR, and have nothing in common with the trolls who feature later in battle. Mathematics and art: the Fraser spiral illusion (made of concentric circles) says something about visual perception, and is a forerunner of Op art.
