Please stop editing the French Guiana article to state that the French name for it is “Guyane Française”. It isn’t, it’s just “Guyane”. Largoplazo (talk) 21:24, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- Actually, I noticed that the French Wikipedia article acknowledges “Hors de France, la région est habituellement appelée Guyane française“, but we should be providing its own name for itself. Largoplazo (talk) 21:37, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- I Google translated it, and it told me it was Guyane Française. Dynamismcool (talk) 21:44, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- Also if it WAS Guyane, it would just be Guiana. Dynamismcool (talk) 21:47, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- Google Translator isn’t a reliable source, and the names for places in different languages aren’t always literal word-for-word translations of each other. What counts is what the department is actually called in the department, and that’s “Guyane”. Look at actual French reliable sources that refer to it to see what they call it. Here’s a starter list, consisting of pages on French government sites: [1]. Largoplazo (talk) 21:51, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
