You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks’ noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Per the extended-confirmed restriction, newer accounts like yours are only permitted to use the talk page to make edit requests. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 16:34, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes.  I know all of this.  I sent a very specific separate issue to Arbitration.  I am not trying to edit the page.  I participated in the Talk page with several people that have Edit rights.  Then another person completely changed, in a highly political way, the article. This person, Rafe87 has a history of not cooperating on Content and being rude (Conduct) as evidenced by their Talk page.
I’m not sure how Wiki handles “contentious” issues, but having 1 very strident person override a group effort does not seem effective. JMU53211 (talk) 17:12, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You can participate at the talk page in one specific way: making edit requests. Further discussion is not permitted, and posting about the topic in other places (like the Dispute resolution noticeboard) is not permitted. It’s a draconian measure, put in place because of severe past and ongoing disruption. We encourage newer editors to stick around and learn the ropes in less contentious areas. Also, that one “very strident” editor is already subject to a special set of editing restrictions. If they either violate those restrictions or make personal attacks on other editors, other editors with extended-confirmed status will report them again to Arbitration Enforcement, and they may be topic-banned. In the meantime, new users are usually advised to avoid contentious areas, and let other experienced editors report the disruptive users to administrators.
