Hi there, I’m pleased to inform you that I’ve begun reviewing the article Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Sportsfan77777 — Sportsfan77777 (talk) 01:41, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Journalist,

I’d like to extend a cordial invitation to you to join the Fifteen Year Society, an informal group for editors who’ve been participating in the Wikipedia project for fifteen years or more.

Best regards, Chris Troutman (talk) 20:19, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The article Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce for issues which need to be addressed. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Sportsfan77777 — Sportsfan77777 (talk) 21:40, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The article Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a “Did you know” item, or as a bold link under “In the News” or in the “On This Day” prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the “On This Day” column do not affect DYK eligibility. Hi! This is a long shot, but I wonder if you can help. 15 years ago you made this edit that stated that May Pen was established as a plantation settlement by the British between 1660 and 1683. Do you have any recollection of the source you used for that? On Talk:May Pen we’re trying to determine whether it was a pen (Jamaican cattle farm) before it was named after Rev. William May who was there in the 1700s.  —SMALLJIM  13:30, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, User:Smalljim! I can’t remember the source that I used (also can’t believe it’s been 15 years! lol). But I did a quick Google search and was able to find this article (pg 6). Not sure of the origin of the name “May Pen” per se, but the article mentions the establishment of a plantation settlement by the British in the 1600s. Hope this helps. I’ll keep looking and let you know if I find anything else. Cheers! Journalist . talk 23:10, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help, that’s great! There’s one niggle – since that document was published in 2012 and it uses the exact same words that were in our article at the time (and the words around it are similar too) one has to consider whether the UN copied the text from Wikipedia. Would they do that, I wonder? It’s surprising where our words can turn up! I tried the internet archive wayback machine to see if they’d stored an earlier version of the document, but no luck. Best,  —SMALLJIM  23:56, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it’s possible that they may have gotten it from Wikipedia. Never thought of that! I’m sure I found it somewhere, so I’ll keep looking and let you know if/when I find anything. Journalist . talk 04:03, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Laureus World Sports Award for Sportswoman of the Year, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Athletics. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

You have recently edited a page related to articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks’ noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Yeah ok, but I still think Charlie Kirk was a God awful piece of shit and I absolutely will mention it every chance I get. Thanks though!Journalist . talk 23:27, 11 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTFORUM is policy, and it says discussions on Wikipedia are not for voicing opinions of the article topic. Your comments have caused a lot of unnecessary strife and are in violation of policy, so I’d appreciate it if you would stop using those derogatory adjectives for Kirk. Thanks, QuicoleJR (talk) 18:20, 12 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please also note: You have recently made edits related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. This is a standard message to inform you that post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people is a designated contentious topic. This message does not imply that there are any issues with your editing. Blocking me doesn’t change the fact that Charlie Kirk was trash. Journalist . talk 11:08, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You are far from the only Wikipedian who feels that way about the late Mr. Kirk. And you’re entitled to that opinion. However, everyone else who feels that way is managing to comply with WP:NOTFORUM. All anyone is asking is that you do the same. There’s a million other websites where you’re welcome to go express that view. — Tamzin[cetacean needed] (they|xe|🤷) 11:45, 14 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
