Book cover uploader question
You recently added a checkbox for “Add image to the Book Infobox?”, but why is this necessary? Where else would the image go? Does your uploader work even for a book article where there is no infobox? Would it create one then? I am confused. Iljhgtn (talk) 19:14, 10 December 2025 (UTC)

:1) The step is necessary because it reduces your efforts of copying the image name, then editing the page, and pasting the image name in the image parameter of the infobox. It is simply making the process more efficient.

:2) In the category that I work with, many articles DO NOT have an infobox. This step works there as well, by adding the Infobox book template at the top of the page, and including our uploaded image in the infobox. Kingsacrificer (talk) 09:06, 11 December 2025 (UTC)

::So to clarify, this DOES automatically then add the book infobox? Iljhgtn (talk) 15:33, 11 December 2025 (UTC)

:::Yes. Kingsacrificer (talk) 17:21, 11 December 2025 (UTC)

::::Awesome! Thank you for all of this. You have such a new account, but already you’ve proven to really help out in some really constructive ways! Iljhgtn (talk) 21:07, 11 December 2025 (UTC)

Cannot find the original first edition cover Kingsacrificer (talk) 20:33, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I find that this happens when you added images to pages which were later deleted or something. Also, I still recommend archiving much of the above. Iljhgtn (talk) 00:45, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have purposefully let them stay because I want to go through each one for the PD / Commons exercise. Then I can archive them once resolved. It’s a lot so it’s taking me a lot of time to go through. Kingsacrificer (talk) 14:06, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. No problem. Iljhgtn (talk) 17:05, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Iljhgtn Would you like to help me reduce this orphaned book covers’ backlog?
If yes, just try and upload the pre-1930 covers. If found and added, you can archive it (I use OneClickArchiver). Some of those files will be deleted by the 25th of Dec, hence bit of an urgency.
If not, no problem at all. Kingsacrificer (talk) 18:23, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I’d like to help you buy I don’t know if I will have time before the 25th of this month! Iljhgtn (talk) 04:13, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Which category are you referring to to help you with by the way? Iljhgtn (talk) 04:13, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No category particularly. Just the orphaned image notifications you can see above on my talk page. Kingsacrificer (talk) 18:25, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I will review now. Iljhgtn (talk) 18:53, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Re: The Golden Thread: A History of the Western Tradition There is nothing in that article which needs an inline citation – the ISBN, author, publisher, the one line plot summary, all that is cited to the book itself. The statement “This article needs additional citations for verification” isn’t very useful – similarly, “Unsourced material may be challenged and removed.” – what unsourced information? What successful challenge are you going to make to the author field? The cover you added (which is about as sourced as the rest of the article)? The ISBN? GreenLipstickLesbian💌🧸 22:28, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I guess General References are a valid alternative. Kingsacrificer (talk) 18:37, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

So do you not have a book image uploader for free file images pre-1930? I wasn’t sure if you were building that. Iljhgtn (talk) 04:30, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No, not yet. Because that would come under free uploads, and each file may be suitable either for Commons or for enwiki only.
I haven’t planned to create that, to be honest. Kingsacrificer (talk) 16:19, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I can see that being more difficult. If there was a way to integrate that, it would be great, but I understand it is more difficult. Iljhgtn (talk) 16:25, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I asked on a forum and they said the same wizard, with some changes can achive this. My concern is though, how can I accommodate for all the different PD tags that exist? Should I let the user input those tags manually? Kingsacrificer (talk) 06:20, 11 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Iljhgtn (talk) 18:00, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. You archive your talk page messages too soon lol, I never get to respond in time. Kingsacrificer (talk) 18:38, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I archive them just as soon as I read them, most of the time. I can leave yours around a little longer if you’d like. 🙂 Iljhgtn (talk) 18:52, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
haha no worries. Only leave them if you’re expecting a response. Kingsacrificer (talk) 19:17, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I might not know when or when not to expect a response, but thank you. Iljhgtn (talk) 20:41, 24 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kingsacrificer, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.

This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:

You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you’re not alone! Sohom (talk) 21:17, 30 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for this! Kingsacrificer (talk) 18:43, 31 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I went to go look for the book cover upload tool and it seems to be missing for me for some reason. Was it deleted? Iljhgtn (they/them · talk) 17:46, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know. There was an error that I have now fixed. You should be able to access it again now.
P.S. GOCE month-long drive has begun. Hope you give it a shot. Kingsacrificer (talk) 17:52, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I need to look at that again. What is the best way to get started? Iljhgtn (they/them · talk) 17:55, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
1. Go to the drive page and sign up.
2. Check the full instructions here. I also recommend skimming through WP:COPYEDIT to understand what things to look at when copyediting an article.
3. Go to the backlog or requests page, and pick a relatively short article so that you can work on it more properly.
4. Once copyedit is done, go to the January 2026 drive talk page and request a review of your copyedit. I request it often for myself. The coordinators are immensely helpful with minor as well as major queries.
Most important thing is to start! Kingsacrificer (talk) 18:02, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
If it is still available, Together (Estonian political party) in the July 2024 backlog seems like a good starting point to me. Kingsacrificer (talk) 18:39, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I see the tool again. Thank you for fixing that so quickly. Iljhgtn (they/them · talk) 17:57, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
