::Hi @[[User:Ratret|Ratret]]. Thank you for the citations. Could you please have a read of our criteria for inclusion at [[Wikipedia:Criteria for inclusion (people)]] – which very specific criterion do you think Robert meets? :::Qcne,

:::Thanks for helping me with this submission. The specific criteria which I feel qualifies Robert Josephberg MD for a Wikipedia page is his pioneering work as the inventor of sutureless vitrectomy surgery, which shortened the time for this procedure from several hours to under one hour. Prior to this invention, for which he holds 3 patents, this type of surgery was often done in a hospital under general anesthesia. After widespread use of sutureless surgery, the procedure could be done in an ambulatory center or even in a doctor’s office under local or sometimes topical anesthesia. I have given several citations to back up this claim.

:::His invention of the curved, ergonomic scleral depressor, for which he holds the patent, has made this type of clinical exam much less painful for the patient allowing it to be used much more often for the detection of retinal breaks, a precursor to retinal detachments. In this way, his invention has indirectly led to the decline in the incidence of retinal detachments by improving early detection leading to prophylactic treatment.

:::After re-reading Wikipedia’s criteria for inclusion, I saw that unusual or interesting events could also be a qualifying factor so I included Robert Josephberg’s Hula Hooping championship award at age 9 which I believe broke a world record at that time. I intend to add citations to the original newspaper articles from 1957 when I get them.

:::Thanks again for your help,
