Hi Rusty Cat, I work for the Courtauld and someone has pointed out that the Courtauld Gallery has an old logo. I’d like to upload a recent logo to the Courtauld Gallery page, and have the permission of the Courtauld Gallery, but I can only do it by relinquishing the copyright. This is a non-free file / the Courtauld would like to keep the copyright. How can I do this? Thanks –[[User:Ivorymimosa|Ivorymimosa]] ([[User talk:Ivorymimosa|talk]]) 13:03, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

- @Karmel Humphrey: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! Call me Rusty. Feel free to ask if you have any questions! ~ Rusty meow ~ 23:30, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
- First question. I submitted an article to AfC. It says it is not pending review. What does that mean exactly? Is there anything else I need to do? Thanks in advance. Karmel Humphrey (talk) 07:20, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Karmel Humphrey: That means you created the draft, but haven’t actually submitted it for review yet. There will be a “Submit” button in the bottom left of the box at the top of the page you can click on to submit.

- Hey Rusty! Article approved! Thanks for your help. One other question. I want to provide the actual birthday for the person in the article. What is the best way to do that? Karmel Humphrey (talk) 03:54, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Karmel Humphrey: Congrats on the article being approved!
- If you can find a (reliable) source that states the person’s birthday, you can use that. Otherwise, there’s not really a way add their birthday into the article, unfortunately. ~ Rusty meow ~ 04:00, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- That’s what I thought but I was checking other articles and wonder if there was another way. Thanks! Karmel Humphrey (talk) 04:01, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

Hey mentor,
Sorry to bother you.
Below is an article i have written. Please let me know if it can be further improvise and is the tone neutral or not.
Thank you —Mirjist (talk) 16:40, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- Manastha is an India-based online mental health platform which provides counselling, therapy, and psychiatric consultation services through online and offline channels. The platform aims to make mental health support more accessible and affordable. According to an article in ED Times, Manastha offers services internationally and has corporate employee assistance programs, while providing consultations to large numbers of people during the COVID-19 pandemic. The platform has also been mentioned in The Economic Times as one of the online mental health services used by individuals seeking psychological support in the context of the #MeToo movement in India.

- The movement to expose sexual harassers appears to have caused a surge in people seeking therapy, The Economic Times. Mirjist (talk) 16:45, 21 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Mirjist: It’s not exactly neutral; I see phrases like “offers services internationally” which feel promotional. You could add more sources as well. The ED times source looks promotional at a glance and the Economic Times article only mentions Manastha briefly, and doesn’t talk about it in detail.
- Also, please take a look at Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners on how to properly add sources.

Updates for editors
- From January, edit filters can be set to automatically suppress their details such as rules and list of attempted edits and actions. This will help oversighters use edit filters to prevent doxxing or other suppressible material. [1]
- The next issue of Tech News will be sent out on 12 January 2026 because of the end of year holidays. Thank you to all of the translators, and people who submitted content or feedback, this year.
View all 16 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the crash that occurred when tapping “First Steps” in the Wikipedia Android Year in Review has now been fixed, and the feature opens as expected. [2]
Updates for technical contributors
- Interface elements such as diffs and categories generated by MediaWiki used to have the attribute
data-mw="interface"to distinguish from wiki content. The attribute has been replaced withdata-mw-interface="", to avoid potential conflicts with otherdata-mwattributes, which are generated by Parsoid. [3] There is no new MediaWiki version this week or next week.
Meetings and events
- The Wikimedia Hackathon Northwestern Europe 2026 will take place on 13-14 March 2026 in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Applications just opened mid-December and will close in mid-January or earlier if capacity is reached. With space for approximately 100 participants, early application is encouraged.

Hello,
I am new to Wikipedia and yesterday was my first day contributing. I tried to translate an article into Urdu, but it was not published. I am still learning how to translate properly and follow Wikipedia guidelines. I can work continuously for many hours and want to contribute sincerely to serve my community through Urdu translations.
I would like to know where my translated draft is saved so that I can continue working on it. Also, I want to ask whether my translated articles will be published once they meet the required standards.
Thank you for your guidance. —Muhammad Ishtiaq ishii (talk) 11:01, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
- Greetings. I don’t see any other edits from your account, so unfortunately it might have been lost. The recommended process is to save it as a Draft article, for example, if the article Cat was not ready for publishing it would be at Draft:Cat.
- The blue button might say “Publish changes”, but you’ll use it whenever you want to just save any kind of changes, such as on a draft.
- Additionally, you have to manually request review of your draft once you feel it is ready; it will not be automatically published.
- Thank you, ~ Rusty meow ~ 15:38, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2026 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here, and a bot will set up your submissions page within one day, ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.
For the 2026 WikiCup, the highest-ranking contestants will receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. This is the same scoring system that we had last year. If you’re busy and can’t sign up in January, don’t worry: Signups are open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants are no longer eliminated at the end of each round.
The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. I don’t have a particular area I want to start assisting in yet, but is there an area of Wikipedia that needs particular attention now?
I am currently a recently out of work editor for a national media org, so I’m pretty strict with my verification work. I just wanted to help out Wikipedia, because I’ve been donating for a little while and feel like I should also donate my time. —Leeminhotep (talk) 13:33, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Leeminhotep: Welcome to Wikipedia!
- Wikipedia is always in need of attention. You can check the Task Center for some more beginner-friendly tasks to do. You might also want to read up on guidelines such as Reliable sources, verifiability, and neutral point of view, should those differ from what you’re used to.

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2025).
Hi Rusty, good to meet you.
I was trying to submit a new topic about Alan Sparrow of The UK Picture Editors Guild. Can you help?
Cheers
Bret —Thebinliner (talk) 15:29, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
I recently updated https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bokurano_episodes to use {{Episode table}} and removed {{Convert to Episode table}}. A few hours later RustyBot 4 re-added {{Convert to Episode table}} despite the article having one.
The bot uses https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Alex_21/sandbox/No_episode_table to decide which articles to check. This seems to be a manually maintained list. Might it be possible to use https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Articles_lacking_Episode_table_templates instead? This at least is automatically updated based on the presence of {{Convert to Episode table}}, though it may lag the article changes a bit.
From reading the bot source at https://github.com/rustykitty/rustybot-mw/blob/master/task_3/bot.py I don’t see any checking if the article has {{Episode table}} before adding {{Convert to Episode table}}. Adding such a check seems like a good idea. I suspect it can’t be done in a 100% reliable way (there may be multiple lists in an article) but most articles could be handled automatically and the remainder flagged for manual checking.
Also, and purely my opinion on a cosmetic issue, adding an end-of-line to the ‘{{Convert to Episode table}}’ string would make it clearer that any following tags are unrelated. I accidentally removed {{Use mdy dates|date=December 2022}} from the Bokurano article, though that’s more to do with my inexperience than the bot.
Regards, ~2026-22963-2 (talk) 00:04, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
- @~2026-22963-2:
- The thing with Category:Articles lacking Episode table templates is that it’s placed by {{Convert to Episode table}} itself.
- Regarding checking if there’s an episode table on the page already, I could check if it already has {{Episode table}}-I’ll post this on the BRFA page though, not sure if it’s significant enough a change to warrant consensus
- I did just push out a change though, making sure to add a newline after the template.
- Thanks! ~ rusty meow ~ 01:19, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

Weekly highlight
- The Wikimedia Foundation has shared some guiding questions for the July 2026–June 2027 Annual Plan on Meta and Diff. These focus on global trends, faster and healthier experimentation, better support for newcomers, strengthening editors and advanced users, improving collaboration across projects, and growing and retaining readership. Feedback and ideas are welcome on the talk page.
Updates for editors
- As part of the current work of Community Tech team on the Multiple watchlists project, the display of EditWatchlist will be updated as a first step towards multiple watchlists. Additionally, the pagination on Search will be updated too, as a part of the work on the Revamp pagination / page navigation wish. [4]
- The Global Watchlist is a MediaWiki extension that lets you see your watchlists from different wikis on the same page. It was recently updated to look more like the regular Watchlist, such as preparing it for temporary accounts in IP masking (including rerouting user links to contributions pages), making page titles bold, and opening links in edit summaries and tags in new browser tabs. [5][6][7][8]
View all 28 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the issue where global blocks did not have the option to disable sending emails, has now been fixed, and will be available for use in the week of January 13. [9]

Hi! I added a question to the teahouse before I realized that wiki assigns mentors. I thought I might just ask if you had any input for me on the question I asked there. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Teahouse#Combining_pages_and_adding_sources —ScrubbedFalcon (talk) 16:24, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
- @ScrubbedFalcon: Merging all three articles is definitely a good idea! If you’re not sure about whether there will be consensus to perform the merge, you can start a discussion, as @DMacks also suggested in your Teahouse post. On preserving the edit history, one way to do it would be to just blank and redirect the other pages (e.g. if you merge the articles for the double and triple knot into the Fisherman’s knot article, you could redirect the former two into the latter).
- Happy editing, ~ rusty meow ~ 23:12, 17 January 2026 (UTC)

Updates for editors
- The tray shown on Special:Diff in mobile view has been redesigned. It is now collapsed by default, and incorporates a link to undo the edit being viewed, making it easier for mobile editors and reviewers to take action while keeping the interface uncluttered. [11]
- The Global Watchlist lets you view your watchlists from multiple wikis on one page. The extension continues to improve — it now automatically determines the text direction (ensuring correct display of sites with unusual domain names) and shows detailed descriptions for log actions. Later this week, a new permanent link for page creations and CSS classes for each entry element will be added. [12][13][14][15]
View all 32 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the previously observed issue in Vector 2022, where anchor link targets were obscured by the sticky header, has now been addressed. [16]
Updates for technical contributors
- As mentioned in the October 2025 deprecation announcement, MediaWiki Interfaces team will begin sunsetting all transform endpoints containing a trailing slash from the MediaWiki REST API the week of January 26. Changes are expected to roll out to all wikis on or before January 30th. All API users currently calling them are encouraged to transition to the non-trailing slash versions. Both endpoint variations can be found, compared, and tested using the REST Sandbox. If you have questions or encounter any problems, please file a ticket in Phabricator to the #MW-Interfaces-Team board.
- Interactive reference documentation for the Wikimedia REST API has moved. Requests to API docs previously hosted through RESTBase (e.g.:
https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/) are now redirected to the REST Sandbox. - The WMF Wikidata Platform team (WDP) has published its January 2026 newsletter. It includes updates on the legacy full-graph endpoint decommissioning, the User-Agent policy change, the monthly Blazegraph migration office hours, and efforts to reduce regressions caused by the legacy endpoint shutdown. As a reminder, you can subscribe to the WDP newsletter!
Detailed code updates later this week: MediaWiki
Meetings and events
- The Wikimedia Hackathon Northwestern Europe 2026 will take place on 13-14 March 2026 in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Applications opened mid-December and will close soon or when capacity is reached. It’s a two-day, technically oriented hackathon bringing together Wikimedians from the region. Hope to see you there!

Hey, Rusty Cat, just visiting about Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/RustyBot 3, saw the latest edits performed by the bot via Special:Contributions/RustyBot. Just noticed a false positive in the bot’s edits here, in which the bot added {{Convert to Episode table}} despite the article already using the correct episode table (albeit via using the module directly with {{#invoke:Episode table|main}} rather than {{Episode table}}). Perhaps just an additional case to add to the bot’s checking? — Alex_21 TALK 22:52, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
