Hello. You are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We’re aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It’s currently planned for June 16-July 13. There is currently $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. As 250 countries and entities is too much to patrol, entries will be by user, but there is $500 going into prizes for editors covering the most countries. Hello. Noticed you changed the sash colour from white to yellow, as per the March 1956 Birmingham Mail. Are there other sources you’re aware of that support the idea of yellow, in particular anything explicit from the 1870s/80s, or a more recent piece with explanation of ”why” it was wrongly thought to have been white? I don’t really think a single mention in that rather poetic piece is strong enough on its own to override the established sources – you’d think it might have been picked up on in the 69 years since if there was anything in it. cheers, [[User:Struway2|Struway2]] ([[User talk:Struway2|talk]]) 12:09, 2 June 2025 (UTC)
: (should I reply here as well?) The only later sources I know for the sash itself are that mention in the Mail and the Norman Edwards 1956 book which depicts it (in part) in one picture. I’m not sure there are any sources which mention it as being white though – it’s inference from that drawing.
:If you want a real spanner in the works…I have found a reference to the sash being ”’red”’ (on dark blue shirts) in 1884. (Bucks Free Press, 15 Feb 1884, report of a match with Marlow [https://www.newspapers.com/image/1137447928 here]). Whatever one makes of that (change? Doubt it as there would not have been THAT much of a clash, Marlow wearing blue and white hoops) it suggests that any sash was not white…
:Oddly it makes sense for yellow – makes it a rough depiction of the first and fourth quarters of the City of Birmingham shield. Although having a sash was surely to differentiate from the other blue/navy-wearing sides at the time. [[User:In Vitrio|In Vitrio]] ([[User talk:In Vitrio#top|talk]]) 18:07, 2 June 2025 (UTC)

Thanks for checking the InternetArchiveBot edit, I don’t know why it sometimes do that. But at least the archiveurl is already there. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 09:13, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Iggy the Swan: might be that the 404 page isn’t coded properly, so it displays 404 to us but doesn’t have whatever the bot needs to see in the code to recognise it as a dead link. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:20, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

- Would an Amazon link work for the URL? I will ask before I add. [1] Red Director (talk) 15:24, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Red Director: I’d understand adding a link that gave the reader access to the cited page, but if all you’re adding is a picture of the outside of the book, that’s not what the citation’s for. Clicking on the isbn and following links from the results of Special:BookSources proves the book exists. Check out Template:Cite book#URL, which tells us that

Hello, its been a while. Came across a discussion of the final elsewhere, and someone asked why both teams were in change kits. I realised I had no idea. It is the kind of detail we would surely have included if one of us had seen it somewhere. Now this omission is nagging at me. Next time I’m in the loft I’ll have to dig my books out and check. Oldelpaso (talk) 10:40, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Fantastic stuff! And so comprehensive! Thank you very much. I can only assume when I was looking at the microfilm of the MEN back then I skipped ahead from the semi to the week or two preceding the final and missed out on this tale.
- I am woefully out of practice after so long away. That newspaper archive access would be most useful if I decide to expand Diane Leather any further. Oldelpaso (talk) 18:51, 30 December 2024 (UTC)

You have made two claims without citing the relevant policy. The first one is that Closer is a celebrity gossip magazine. I think you have to distinguish between “news” and “gossip”. For example, the London Times has news items and also a gossip column, clearly labelled as such. Again, a “gossip magazine” (to use your derogatory phrase) will be very careful to check the factual accuracy of its news items, not least because of the danger of being sued for defamation by the celebrities concerned should information be wrong. The magazine’s publisher also publishes TV Choice, Motor Cycle News, Parker’s Car Guide, Australian Women’s Weekly, Harper’s Bazaar, Better Homes and Gardens, Men’s Health and Women’s Health. Are you suggesting these are unreliable sources? On forums, you claim no forum is a reliable source. Are you quoting policy or is that just your opinion? By their nature, forums are contributed to by people who are specialist in the subject and know what they’re talking about, and posts will be quickly called out by others if they contain inaccuracies. 91.234.214.10 (talk) 10:32, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- I’ve just spotted your comment on my talk page. First thoughts: quite rightly policy takes exception to people talking about other people on their social media feed, or a blog they produce, or their website, or a podcast they have put out, or a self-published book where they pay the publisher to publish what they write. Not sure what a “zine” is – I’ve not encountered the term before. This must be distinguished from moderated sources – e.g. a publisher who reads the manuscript and checks it for accuracy, or academics who post to a forum where the brainstorming can produce useful insights. Pie and Bovril is a forum for soccer enthusiasts, and enthusiasts know an awful lot about their subject. I would imagine it is well known in Dumfries that Lyndon and Victoria are cousins – if that wasn’t true one of them would have been quick to say so. 91.234.214.10 (talk) 12:03, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
