=== Think of them as friends you have never met ===

{{ping|Baangla}} On Wikipedia we look after each other. One of the mechanisms we have for this is the “watch list”. If I have user Fred’s talk page on my watch list, this helps Fred.

*For example, if an article created by Fred is put up for deletion, a notice will be put on Fred’s talk page – that notice will attract editors like me to look at the article and assess whether it should be kept. It may also cause us to fix problems with the article.

*If Fred is accused of edit warring on his/her talk page, the edit-warring notice may cause us to look at the page Fred has been editing. If Fred has been reverting bad edits, the next time the other guy makes a bad edit, instead of Fred reverting, it will be one of us.

*We may also help Fred by telling him/her when he/she has got it wrong. Or by suggesting better sources for something he/she is trying to do.

Can you become the Supreme Leader of the Supreme Cabal?

Hi, I was just about to add that Leila Ahmed source to the discussion on Aisha, but I’m not sure how to put it into the article. Thanks for bringing it up, though.
By the way, in your comment there I think you misspelled “aunt” as “auth” —> “his auth had suggested.”
And in the phrase “Khawla, and aunt of Muhammad’s,” I think it should be “an” rather than “and.” Amby07 (talk) 14:45, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks.
The article on Aisha is semi-protected – see log. So if you want to suggest a change to the article, you have to make a request on the article talk page. Toddy1 (talk) 15:27, 11 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Starting on 1 November, the month-long 2025 Article Improvement Drive will target a number of content improvement areas and backlogs. Participating editors will be in line for barnstars and other awards; articles from all aspects of the project will be eligible so there will be something for everybody. Interested editors are encouraged to sign up now! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 20:18, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I received the following email from @Baangla:

I have been adding an apostrophe and diacritics to Hawaiian names and other terms after adding the {{lang|haw|......}} template around those terms. Is that acceptable or are you going to revert all those edits?

This kind of message is better placed on my talk page than in an email. It is not secret.

I cannot find examples of you making this kind of edit, which makes it difficult for me to comment on what you are doing. So let me answer using an analogy:

  • There is no objection to Kharkiv#Etymology containing {{langx|ru|link=no|[[wikt:Харьков|Харьков]]}}.
  • There would be a huge objection to an editor going through the article and changing every instance of Kharkiv to Харьков, because that is not how it is written in the English-language.

Does that help? Toddy1 (talk) 12:43, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I want to know if you will revert edits like this simply because it has an apostrophe and macron (it is spelt like that everywhere in that article).-Baangla (talk) 13:20, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the example you gave, I think it is good for you to self revert this edit by you and add this template around the non-English terms: …….-Baangla (talk) 13:52, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Is Kharkiv no longer a part of Ukraine?-Baangla (talk) 13:56, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You do not get it. The example you gave was to an article called Lānaʻi. That means that Wikipedia accepts that the commonly-used English language name is spelt like that. It seems bizarre that this is so, but was the result of consensus in a move discussion on 3-10 July 2025. On Wikipedia we respect consensus, even when we do not like it.

Before the move of the article from “Lanai” to “Lānaʻi”, it would have been wrong to use “Lānaʻi” in the text, except: (a) in quotations, or (b) for the purposes of etymology, or (c) in the titles of sources. After the move, “Lānaʻi” became the preferred spelling Toddy1 (talk) 14:31, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

No topic ban has been imposed on me yet but I am still avoiding articles related to South Asia because BusterD told me to. Now, after my topic ban is imposed and then, lifted, will you let me add the template {{lang|kan|……}} around non-English terms in articles?-Baangla (talk) 18:09, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not do this. You haven’t the least idea how or where to use such templates. Toddy1 (talk) 18:51, 2 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
