The Reform Sri Lanka (RSL) is a right-wing, conservative, and libertarian political party in Sri Lanka. It was founded in November 2031 by Chehan Rajapaksha and is currently led by Geeshan Wijemanne. As of 2052, the party holds 138 seats in Parliament, 4 seats in Provincial Councils, and 4,121 councillors in Local Government.

Reform Sri Lanka was founded in November 2031 by Chehan Rajapaksha together with a group of young Gen Z reformists seeking to introduce a modern conservative and libertarian movement to Sri Lankan politics. The party was officially recognized by the Election Commission of Sri Lanka on 10 February 2032.

Under Chehan Rajapaksha (2031–2045)

[edit]

The party first contested the 2035 parliamentary election, winning 2 seats. In 2034, Chehan Rajapaksha ran for president, receiving 6.17% of the national vote. Five years later, he won the 2039 presidential election with 46.51%, becoming one of the youngest presidents in Sri Lankan history.

During his presidency, Rajapaksha implemented a series of economic and administrative reforms aimed at reducing bureaucracy, expanding youth participation in politics, and promoting private-sector development. Under his leadership, the party grew rapidly and achieved major victories in subsequent elections. In the 2040 parliamentary election, Reform Sri Lanka secured 108 of 225 seats, forming a government for the first time.

Rajapaksha chose not to seek a second term in the 2044 presidential election, stating publicly that he had “built the foundation” for the party and wished to retire from active politics at the age of 40 to focus on his personal life. His decision marked a rare early retirement in modern Sri Lankan politics. Media outlets later reported rumors of a personal relationship between Rajapaksha and a cabinet minister, though these claims were never confirmed.

Under Geeshan Wijemanne (2045–present)

[edit]

Following Rajapaksha’s retirement, Geeshan Wijemanne, then Deputy Leader and Prime Minister, became the party’s presidential candidate and won the 2044 election with 64.51% of the vote. Wijemanne succeeded Rajapaksha as Leader of Reform Sri Lanka in early 2045. Kalana Fernando was appointed Deputy Leader and continued serving as Prime Minister, while Ruhi Udurawana became the party’s General Secretary.

Geeshan Wijemanne was re-elected unopposed as party leader in 2046. His tenure emphasized continuity, focusing on post-crisis economic reforms, education, and local governance restructuring.

In 2048, Kalana Fernando resigned as Deputy Leader following internal party conflicts. Juleena Rajapaksha was appointed as the new Deputy Leader, while Kalana continued serving as Prime Minister.

As of 2047, Reform Sri Lanka remains the governing party, holding 164 of 225 parliamentary seats, 6 provincial councils, and 5,978 local government positions across the country.
