James B. Alexander () was a Scottish painter.[1]
Life
His father was John Alexander, a portrait painter,[2] (4 August 1807 – 24 March 1872) from Carnwath in South Lanarkshire.[3] He died in Dumfries.
His mother was Jane Baxter.
James Baxter Alexander was born in 1845 in the parish of Urr in Kirkcudbrightshire.
His brother was the artist William Drysdale Alexander (28 September 1840 – 27 August 1872).
James Baxter Alexander married Mary E. Walkinshaw Gilchrist on 12 March 1875 at 105 Breadalbane Terrace in Glasgow.
Mary Gilchrist was the eldest daughter of Alexander Gilchrist.
