Career and Social Work

[edit]

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Faiyaz Alam, alongside a group of young residents, founded the New Sangam Welfare Society.[3] The organization was established to empower and uplift the socio-economic status of the largely slum population in Mumbai’s M East ward, focusing on issues such as sanitation, climate, environmental advocacy, and other civic concerns.[5][6]

During his studies, Adv. Faiyaz Alam Sheikh founded the “New Sangam Welfare Society” and is its General Secretary. In 2022, Faiyaz, representing the Govandi New Sangam Welfare Society, has been actively advocating for the relocation of a biomedical waste treatment plant in Govandi. Residents, including Shaikh, have raised concerns about the plant’s impact on public health, linking it to respiratory issues and tuberculosis.[7][8] Despite initial deadlines, the relocation has been delayed, and Shaikh continues to engage with authorities to ensure the timely movement of the facility and address community health concerns.[9][10][11]

Since childhood, he was very interested in social work and politics. In 2024, he joined the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party along with Atique Khan, Saeed Khan and has been working in it for a long time.[1]
