1935 Mississippi Democratic lieutenant gubernatorial primary runoff

The 1927 Mississippi lieutenant gubernatorial election took place on November 5, 1935, in order to elect the Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi. Incumbent Democrat Dennis Murphree decided to run for governor instead of seeking another term.

As was common at the time, the Democratic candidate ran unopposed in the general election; therefore, the Democratic primary was the real contest, and winning the primary was considered tantamount to election.

No candidate received a majority in the Democratic primary, which featured three contenders, so a runoff was held between the top two candidates. The runoff election was won by Bidwell Adam, who narrowly defeated State Senator Walter N. Taylor.[1]
