Gubernatorial elections were held in the Philippines on January 18, 1988. All provinces will elect their provincial governors for four-year term, who will be inaugurated on February 2, 1988, after their proclamation. Governors that are currently serving as officer in charge are prohibited from running as governors (as well for any other positions however).
Metro Manila and highly urbanized and independent component cities such as Angeles City, Cebu City and Davao City are outside the jurisdiction of any province and thus do not run elections for governors of their mother provinces (Pampanga, Cebu and Davao del Sur respectively). These shall elect mayors instead.
