1. Don’t decline unblock requests if you made the block.
2. Feel free to comment on such unblock requests.
3. Don’t decline unblock requests if you already declined a previous request on the same block.
4. Feel free to accept an unblock request if you previously declined one on the same block and have since been convinced otherwise.
5. Feel free to accept an unblock request if you made the block.
6. Don’t bother with considering checkuser blocks. There are several checkusers (me, for example) who hang out in CAT:RFU to do this.
7. In the case of {{unblock-un}} and other unblocks involving user renames, you can decline the request, but if you want to accept the request, you’ll should wait until one of the WP:renamers (or a ‘crat) does the rename. They’ll get to it in due time, usually.
8. We don’t consider chatbot generated requests. gptzero.me is simple for finding these, and after you see a few of them, you’ll start recognizing the symptoms.
9. User:Novem Linguae/Scripts/UnblockReview.js is a real time-saver. It has a few bugs, but it’s generally worth it. Check your work.
10. We don’t consider third party unblock requests.
11. If you see an empty unblock request, look at the source code. If you see what looks like an unblock reason, put “reason=” before it and it will work. (The way template expansion works, an “=” sign in the request reason is interpreted as if everything preceding the equal sign is a named argument.)

These aren’t lore, just my own practices.

1. Don’t lecture the unblock requester about Wikipedia jargon. Explaining to the probably naive user that “we call things on Wikipedia articles, not pages” doesn’t help with the problem at hand.
2. Don’t lecture about bottom posting. Go ahead and move it if you want.
