Leonel Domingues is a Portuguese engineer, entrepreneur, and technology executive, best known as the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Nonius, a provider of hospitality technology solutions founded in 2005. Domingues has led research and development across networking, guest entertainment, and digital engagement systems for hotels and healthcare providers. He has served in leadership forums of Hospitality Technology Next Generation (HTNG) and is a member of the Global Technology 100 (T100).[1][2]
Early life and education

Domingues studied electronics and engineering at the University of Minho, Portugal, earning a Licentiate in Industrial Electronics and an MSc in Electronics.[3]
Domingues co-founded Nonius in 2005. Under his technical leadership, the company expanded internationally and developed platforms such as the Nonius Hub (cloud integration) and products for guest entertainment and connectivity.[4]
He has represented Nonius in HTNG leadership bodies, including the Vendor Advisory Council, contributing to interoperability efforts in the sector.[2]
- WGStargate (European Space Agency) – A satellite/terrestrial communications gateway project enabling internet access by combining Satcom with UMTS/HSDPA/WiMAX/EvDo and other technologies; the project targeted applications for transport and maritime environments.[5]
Publications and research

- MagTag – A wearable wrist device for localization applications. Domingues co-authored this paper on a small, wearable Wi-Fi-based localization device for ambient assisted living and clinical environments. Presented at PervasiveHealth 2010.[6][7]
Awards and recognition

- TechOvation Award (2020) — for the Nonius Cast “Seamless Cast” solution, recognising innovation in guest entertainment and casting technology.[8][9]
- AHLA/HTNG Technology Acceleration Award (2024) — recognition for the Nonius Voice AI Assistant and related work showcased at The Hospitality Show.[10][11]
- Global Technology 100 (T100) — membership in AHLA/HTNG’s leadership group for hospitality technology.[1]
