Reconomy is a global provider of resource management, environmental compliance, reuse logistics and circular-economy services. Founded in the United Kingdom in 1994 as a waste-management business, the company expanded internationally through a sustained programme of acquisitions across Europe and North America.[3][4] Brands within the company include Reconomy Connect in the United Kingdom and Lincoln Waste Solutions in North America.[5][6]

Reconomy provides technology-enabled waste and resource management, extended producer responsibility (EPR) compliance, international take-back and reverse logistics, carbon and circularity reporting, and global returns-management solutions. Through these services, the company states that it helps businesses “embrace the circular economy” by reducing waste, improving resource efficiency and supporting regulatory compliance.[7]

As of 2025, the company employs more than 4,300 people and manages activity for over 25,000 customers in more than 175 countries.[8] Reconomy reports a customer Net Promoter Score of 69 across its Recycle, Comply and Re-use loops.[9]

1994–2003: Formation and early operations

[edit]

Reconomy (UK) Limited was incorporated in July 1994 under the name Critical Resource Limited.[10] In its early years, the company operated as a UK-focused outsourced waste-management provider serving commercial customers across the United Kingdom. It developed some of the first digital reporting tools used in the UK waste-brokerage sector, enabling clients to monitor waste movements and recycling performance online.[11] During this period, Reconomy also built a national network of subcontracted waste-management partners, forming the foundation for the broker-based service model it would later scale.[12]

2003–2010: Private-equity investment and development

[edit]

In 2006, the company secured private-equity investment from Englefield Capital, which later merged into Bregal Capital.[13] The investment enabled Reconomy to expand its national brokerage operations, strengthen its commercial services and grow its compliance-related consulting capability.[14] The funding also supported development of more advanced digital tools for service visibility and environmental reporting.[15]

2010–2017: Diversification and UK acquisitions

[edit]

Throughout the early 2010s, Reconomy diversified its operations through targeted acquisitions and investment in specialist recycling and consultancy services. The company expanded its brokerage model into construction, infrastructure and retail sectors, supported by growing demand for digital tracking and environmental reporting.[16]

A significant milestone came in 2015 with the acquisition of Network Waste, which strengthened national coverage and increased capacity in skip-hire brokerage and construction-sector services.[17] Further consolidation in this period positioned Reconomy as one of the more prominent UK-wide providers of contractor-focused brokerage services.[18]

2017–present: EMK ownership, loops model and global expansion

[edit]

Reconomy was acquired by private-equity firm EMK Capital in 2017.[19] Following the acquisition, the company introduced a new operating model structured around three internal business units known as loops. These units were created to organise Reconomy’s growing service portfolio and support its wider transition towards circular-economy and compliance-focused services.[20]

  • Recycle Loop – Delivers waste and resource management via platforms, data and expert advice, helping customers move materials up the waste hierarchy towards zero waste.
  • Comply LoopExtended producer responsibility (EPR), environmental compliance and regulatory reporting.
  • Re-use Loop – Returns-management, refurbishment, Reverse logistics and freight forwarding within circular supply-chain activity.

From 2018 onward, Reconomy expanded internationally through acquisitions across the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands and North America.[21][22] These acquisitions increased the company’s activity in compliance services, take-back programmes and international circular supply-chain operations.[23]

In 2023 Reconomy introduced a refreshed logo and visual identity to align the brand with its positioning as a circular-economy and sustainability services provider, following brand-strategy and design work with agency Red Stone.[24][25]

2023–2024: Establishment of Reconomy Connect

[edit]

Between 2023 and 2024, Reconomy unified three previously acquired UK brands: Waste Source, ACM Environmental and Novati. These brands were combined into a single waste-management brand known as Reconomy Connect.[26] The integration created a national provider of outsourced waste-management services and centralised customer support, digital reporting and service delivery. The consolidation aligned Reconomy’s UK operations with the wider loops model and reinforced its position within the UK brokerage and outsourced waste-management market.[27][28]

Guy Wakeley – Chief Executive

[edit]

Guy Wakeley is Chief Executive of Reconomy and leads the company’s global strategy to enable a waste-free world through circular and sustainable business models. Under his leadership, Reconomy has focused on organic growth, strategic acquisitions and technology-enabled service expansion.[29] Wakeley has emphasised investment in digital infrastructure, scalable technology platforms and data-driven reporting to support the company’s circular-economy objectives.[30]

Wakeley holds an MA in Engineering Science from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in artificial-intelligence applications. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Chartered Engineer, and a member of the CBI’s Public Services Strategy Board.[31]

Paul Cox – Founder & Director

[edit]

Paul Cox founded the business in 1994 and previously served as Chief Executive before moving into a Founder & Director role. He remains involved in strategic planning, long-term investment decisions and development of Reconomy’s loops operating model.[32] Cox played a key role in building the early outsourced waste-management platform and guiding the transition into a broader circular-economy and compliance services provider.[33]

Jody Fullman – Chief Information Officer

[edit]

Jody Fullman is responsible for Reconomy’s technology products, engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity and IT service delivery. He oversees RecoTek, the company’s technology scaling centre in Bucharest, and supports risk-management operations and M&A integration activities.[34] Fullman is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and was named in the Global CIO 100.

Philip Vincent – Chief Financial Officer

[edit]

Philip Vincent joined Reconomy in 2025, bringing over 20 years’ experience in senior finance roles across multinational public and private companies.[35] A Chartered Accountant trained at KPMG, Vincent previously served as CFO at ZIGUP PLC and held senior positions at SABMiller and BBC Worldwide.

Lyndsey Denning – Chief People Officer

Lyndsey Denning leads Reconomy’s global people strategy, covering talent development, HR systems, workforce digitisation and employee lifecycle management.[36] She holds an MA in HR Management and is fully CIPD qualified.

Tony Munro – Marketing Director

[edit]

Tony Munro oversees Reconomy’s external marketing, internal communications and sustainability-strategy programmes.[37] He holds a CIM Professional Diploma and a BA(Hons) in Sociology from the University of Nottingham.

Kieran Roche – Sales Director

[edit]

Kieran Roche leads Reconomy’s sales operations, CRM optimisation and the development of revenue-enablement processes across the loops.[38]

Mike Benton – Managing Director, Recycle Loop

[edit]

Mike Benton heads the Recycle Loop, overseeing the UK’s largest outsourced waste-management operation and its expansion into North America.[39] His work includes strategic growth, digitisation of service delivery and innovation in material-recovery processes.

Patrick Wiedemann – Chief Executive, Comply Loop

[edit]

Patrick Wiedemann leads the Comply Loop, managing international compliance operations including more than 45 Producer responsibility organization|Producer Responsibility Organisations across multiple regions.[40] His expertise covers extended producer responsibility, reverse logistics and regulatory scheme management.

Rakhshan Zahid – Chief Executive, Re-use Loop

[edit]

Rakhshan Zahid leads Reconomy’s global returns-management and circular-logistics operations, including the Advanced Supply Chain and ReBound brands.[41] Zahid previously held senior roles at Amazon overseeing European retail and marketplace programmes.

Jamie Halstead – Chief of Staff

[edit]

Jamie Halstead coordinates cross-functional operations, corporate governance, financial communications and M&A processes across the business.[42]

Reconomy delivers a global portfolio of compliance, resource-recovery, digital and circular-logistics services used by commercial, construction, retail, manufacturing and e-commerce clients. Its services combine operational delivery with data insight, environmental reporting and circular-economy consultancy.

The company’s service offering includes technology-enabled waste and resource management; environmental compliance and extended producer responsibility (EPR); digital waste-tracking tools; international take-back and reverse-logistics programmes; returns-management and refurbishment operations; freight-forwarding services; sustainable-packaging advisory; and digital product-passport development.[43][44]

Rather than being organised as traditional divisions, these services are delivered through the company’s three loops — Recycle, Comply and Re-use — which integrate technology, operations and data insight to support customers in reducing waste, meeting regulatory requirements and adopting circular-economy practices.[45]

Reconomy positions sustainability as a core component of its global operating model, describing itself as an enabler of the circular economy. It provides data-led insight, compliance expertise, resource-optimisation services and circular-logistics capabilities to help businesses reduce environmental impact and meet regulatory obligations.[46][47] Sustainability performance is reported across the company’s three operational loops — Recycle, Comply and Re-use — reflecting their different roles in resource management, regulatory compliance and circular logistics.[48]

According to its 2024 Sustainability Report, Reconomy supported customers in diverting 5.8 million tonnes of material from landfill in 2023, with 61% of managed material sent for recycling or reuse.[49] The same report states that the company reduced its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 24% year-on-year, partly through efficiency measures and increased procurement of renewable electricity.[50]

Reconomy reports that it physically managed 3.7 million tonnes of material in 2023, of which 45% was routed to closed-loop recycling processes designed to keep materials in circulation at their highest possible value.[51] The company states that 95.6% of purchased electricity came from renewable sources and that internal analysis identified a 55% “circularity gap” between the resources flowing through its ecosystem and a fully circular outcome.[52]

Reconomy aligns its disclosures with a number of international sustainability frameworks, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).[53] In December 2023, Reconomy’s near-term and net-zero emissions targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.[54]

The company has received recognition for its environmental, social and governance performance. Reconomy won the Lloyds Bank Sustainable Business of the Year Award at the 2023 British Business Excellence Awards and received “Excellence in ESG” recognition from the British Private Equity & Venture Capital Association | BVCA in 2024 as a private-equity portfolio company.[55][56] Reconomy has also been recognised in CIO 100 rankings for its technology and data-led approach to sustainability and operations.[57]

Reconomy publishes an annual assessment of its climate impact, including carbon footprint data, emissions-reduction plans and analysis of its role in supporting customers’ decarbonisation strategies.[58] Its reporting differentiates between emissions generated directly through operations and those linked to customer activities managed through its platforms and loops.

In 2023, Reconomy launched its “Close The Gap” initiative, which uses internal and customer data to highlight the difference between current recycling performance and a theoretical fully circular model. The company states that the analysis identified a 55% circularity gap across materials flowing through its ecosystem, and that closing this gap would significantly reduce embodied emissions in supply chains.[59]

Reconomy has linked its circularity work to Earth Overshoot Day, highlighting how improved resource efficiency can reduce the date on which global resource consumption exceeds annual planetary regeneration capacity. In its public commentary, the company has reported that the combined effect of its managed material flows and circularity initiatives was equivalent to moving Earth Overshoot Day by twelve minutes in 2023, based on methodology from the Global Footprint Network.[60][61]

The company reports that its loops support customers in reducing climate impact through measures such as route optimisation and freight transport consolidation in the Re-use Loop, increased recycling and waste-prevention in the Recycle Loop, and improved compliance data and eco-design advice through the Comply Loop.[62] Reconomy’s climate strategy is overseen by its executive team and board, with performance monitored through internal carbon budgets and scenario analysis aligned with TCFD guidance.[63]

Reconomy’s operations span the United Kingdom, mainland Europe and North America, with additional activities in selected other markets through its compliance and consultancy services.[64] In the UK and Ireland, the Recycle Loop operates outsourced waste-management and resource-optimisation services for commercial, construction and public-sector customers, including activities delivered under the Reconomy Connect brand.[65]

Across the European Union and other European markets, the Comply Loop manages extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes and compliance services through brands such as Valpak, Noventiz and the Reverse Logistics Group.[66][67] In North America, Reconomy operates waste-management consulting, haulier-management, resource-recovery and compliance services, including extended producer responsibility (EPR) support, following acquisitions such as Lincoln Waste Solutions, Complete Solutions & Sourcing, Waste Focus and American Outsourced Waste & Recycling (AOWR).[68][69][70]

Reconomy has expanded through a series of acquisitions and brand integrations across its loops. Major acquisitions and brand additions include:
