The sports received varied opinions between them. Soccer was reviewed by Destructoid as “arguably one of the weaker Nintendo Switch Sports experiences available,” though they found the Shoot-Out mode was more enjoyable.[1] GameSpot reviewed Volleyball as the most intuitive to “pick up and play” as it required learning a series of movesets, as opposed to the simplicity of the other sports in the game.[2] Bowling was reviewed by Nintendo World Report as a very fun sport to play online due to its 16-player configuration.[3]
GamesRadar+ reviewed badminton as “just as fun as football,” although the game doesn’t tell you how to make more powerful shots, so there is a pleasant learning curve based on trial and error.[4] Nintendo Life reviewed chambara as an odd sport, but its nuance makes it interesting and it wasn’t by any means a bad sport.[5] Game Informer reviewed tennis as an impressively polished sport, and that powerful slams and obstacle courses added a challenge to the sport.[6]
In regards of Online, Nintendo World Report praised the game left you play the online even without a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, (even though you can only play with CPU’s), but that the online still had more potential than in reality.[3] IGN couldn’t test out the online, but that they didn’t care about the customization options playing online gave.[7]
