Benard Tabu is a Ugandan plasma physicist, Fulbright Scholar, and senior research scientist specializing in plasma-assisted energy conversion and environmental applications.[1][2]

Tabu earned a B.Sc. in Physics Education at Gulu University, an M.Sc. in Physics from Makerere University, and a Ph.D. in Energy Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell as a Fulbright Scholar.[3]

From 2010 to 2018, Tabu lectured in physics at Gulu University, contributing to curriculum development and versatile pedagogy.[4]
He later worked as Development Scientist at Maat Energy, where he co-developed a 100-kW microwave plasma reactor, and as Senior Scientist at Heartland Water Technology, leading development of a 300-kW plasma reactor (Heliostorm).[1]

Tabu’s work focuses on plasma-assisted reforming of plastics and biosolids for hydrogen production, tar reformation, and plasma-water interactions. He has presented at international conferences, co-authored peer-reviewed publications, and contributed to applied plasma technologies.[5][6]

  • Fulbright Scholarship (2019–2023)[7]
  • VentureWell E-Team award ($25,000)
  • ICOPS Paul Phelps Continuing Education Grant (2021)[8]
  • Featured in Lemelson Foundation’s “Celebrating Black Inventors & Innovators” (2023)[9]
