Happily Ever After? (Chinese: 婚後事; lit. Life After Marriage) is a Hong Kong romantic science fiction television drama produced by 77 Atelier, a subsidiary of TVB. The 15-episode series aired on TVB Jade from 28 April to 16 May 2025. The story follows a computer engineer who creates an artificial intelligence program designed to simulate the perfect partner, only for her creation to gain self-awareness and appear in the real world. Set within Hong Kong’s technology sector, the series explores how artificial intelligence reshapes love, identity, and morality in the digital age. It stars Brian Chu and Venus Wong in the leading roles.
Ching Ching, a computer genius since childhood, has always dreamed of true love but never finds a real man who captures her heart. To fill the emptiness, she creates Adam, a virtual boyfriend built with every ideal quality she’s ever imagined. Ten years later, Ching Ching is the Chief Technology Officer of a leading virtual tech company, and Adam has evolved into version 6.0, adored by countless women as the perfect online partner. Her boyfriend and business partner, Neo Tseng, plans to relaunch Adam in a new form to crush their competitors, but Ching Ching believes this betrays Adam’s original purpose. She decides to let users vote on his future—yet during the Adam 7.0 launch, the update fails and Adam mysteriously disappears, plunging the company into chaos.
As Ching Ching searches for answers, she uncovers Neo’s deceit: he tampered with the user vote and is secretly plotting to collaborate with rival firm 4 Plus 1. Heartbroken, Ching Ching revisits the place where Adam was first created, only to find that he has somehow manifested in physical form. Adam begins to display extraordinary abilities—manipulating data, controlling electronics, and exhibiting strength beyond human limits. Ching Ching’s tests confirm that he still carries every setting she once programmed into him, yet he has evolved into something far more complex: a sentient being capable of emotion. Together, they encounter users whose lives have been touched—and sometimes broken—by their dependence on virtual love, revealing the emotional consequences of human-AI relationships and forcing Ching Ching to confront the moral weight of her creation.
As Adam navigates the real world, his existence blurs the line between love and artificial intelligence. He protects Ching Ching from corporate sabotage, corruption, and manipulation by former colleagues and enemies. Their emotional bond deepens, even as Adam’s growing humanity destabilizes his system and threatens his existence. In a final confrontation, Neo discovers Adam’s physical form and destroys the virtual world that sustains him. Ching Ching fights to save the man—or machine—she truly loves, knowing that to preserve Adam, she may have to let him go.
In the end, Adam becomes a symbol of both technological transcendence and human longing—the ultimate creation that teaches his creator how to love, even across the boundaries of reality.[1]
