Meitei Ningthou / Maharaja of Manipur

Maharaja Madhuchandra Singh or Meidingu Tamlen Khomba was the monarch of the Ningthouja dynasty of Medieval Manipur from 1801 to 1806 (1803 according to other sources). He was the second son of King Bhagyachandra.

Family

Madhuchandra Singh was the third son of King Bhagya Chandra, born by Khayoiron Ngangbam Chanu Metuloikhombi Wairang Lamnembi. His father had eight sons;

Reign

Madhuchandra ascended the throne shortly after his elder brother, Labanyachandra was assassinated after being conspired by his younger brothers, Daoji and Gambhir Singh. As soon as he was killed, Madhuchandra took control, foiling the conspirators’ plan. He made his two younger brothers, Chourjit Singh as the Yuvaraja, and Marjit Singh as the Senapati.
