This is the discussion page of Tambayan Philippines, where Filipino contributors and contributors to Philippine-related articles discuss general matters regarding the development of Philippine-related articles as well as broad topics on the Philippines with respect to Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects. Likewise, this talk page also serves as the regional notice board for Wikipedia concerns regarding the Philippines, enabling other contributors to request input from Filipino Wikipedians.

Hi, everyone!

Wikipedia is having its 25th birthday this 2026. To celebrate, we’re holding a Wikipedia birthday party on January 18, 2026 (Sunday), 1:00 p.m. at Shakey’s Eton Centris in Diliman, Quezon City! Everyone in and around Metro Manila is welcome to join us, whether you have over 10,000 edits or are just starting out. We’ll be having a mini edit-a-thon at the meetup, so ideally bring a device that you can comfortably edit in. Aside from that, just bring yourself and your excitement! We’ll take care of the food, venue, and the birthday cake. If you’re coming from in and around Metro Manila, we may also reimburse some of your local transport costs. For more details, you can view the event page on Meta-Wiki.

If you’d like to join in, please register on the event page. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reply here, message us on our talk pages, or send me or Chipmunkdavis an email. We look forward to seeing you there! — from CMD (talk) and Chlod (say hi!) 06:01, 17 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It’s not in Filipino, but this is listed in the List of Philippine Airlines accidents and incidents article, citing this in support. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 03:22, 31 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I want to see if I can create a article on its own and that source is a database. I want to check if there are any sources in Filipino, maybe a few years after the crash. Zaptain United (talk) 03:25, 31 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn’t be shocked if there isn’t enough data to create the article. In the US, we say “if it bleeds, it leads” and this was a very successful crash landing with no deaths or serious injuries, and they put out the fire in 15 seconds. The media tends to prefer publishing when things go bad, not when everyone does a great job. That was pre-internet as well, and I don’t see a lot of stuff in PH from that era being digitized, so it might require actually going to the library in Manila to gather sources. Tough job. Dennis Brown 07:24, 31 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
WP:AIRCRASH is pretty explicit and any full-fledged article about this accident will be shouted down at AFD. Howard the Duck (talk) 08:58, 31 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That is kind of what I figured as well. Again, when a plane crashes “successfully”, it is seldom notable enough for an article. Dennis Brown 14:53, 31 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dear all, requesting guidance about Civil conflict in the Philippines. The article does not seem to make sense. Is it a page for the different civil conflictS, plural, in the country? Or is it proposing that the NPA conflict and the Moro Conflict are part of a single integrated conflict? Further, is it saying that the supposed ISIL conflict is at the same level as the NPA and Moro Conflicts? If so, why does it ignore similarly-sized conflicts like the Cordillera conflict? There is a tag on the article requesting updating, but I am not even sure what the article is about. – MistahPeemayer (talk) 13:08, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

This was supposed to be the different civil conflicts (plural), presumably since independence. Ideally it should include NPA, Huks, Moro and Cordillera conflicts. It was brought about by the discussion at Talk:New People’s Army rebellion/Archive 1#Requested move 2 March 2020. Howard the Duck (talk) 11:55, 13 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everyone,
do you think Manila Today (see homepage, 1) can be treated as a reliable local source for Wikipedia? I’ve noticed it being used as a reference in articles about Bongbong Marcos, as well as places like Makati and La Union (see here, 2), and I’d like to ask whether it meets WS standards? AdobongPogi masarap 🍛 02:23, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Without offering an opinion about this, I’ll link their About us web page. The Menu available by clicking the Hamburger button on their home page doesn’t include a link to this. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 02:53, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently some writeups in Manila Today were published in Altermidya. Based on its treatment of various issues and topics which may or may not be similar to the coverage done by Bulatlat and other like-minded outlets (Kodao Productions and Pinoy Weekly for example), I would put it under the “Additional considerations apply” column.-Ian Lopez @ 14:52, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

There’s a TA aggressively writing unsourced articles of NCAA volleyball teams which involve this WikiProject. Is there a way we can get some assistance in handling the situation before it gets out of control? Thanks! Jalen Barks (Woof) 22:15, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Can you link the articles here? Filipino women’s volleyball fans can get very WP:OWNy of these articles. It’s like the sports version of Filipino entertainment articles. Howard the Duck (talk) 22:56, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. In order by latest attempt first, the articles are: Arellano Lady Chiefs volleyball, San Beda Lady Red Spikers volleyball (this one was moved to draftspace as of writing), Mapúa Lady Cardinals volleyball, Letran Lady Knights volleyball, Lyceum Lady Pirates volleyball, EAC Lady Generals volleyball, and JRU Lady Bombers volleyball. Jalen Barks (Woof) 23:07, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
While these have no sources, these are notable, and the men’s basketball counterparts almost made it to DYK no thanks to a dispute in using “NCAA” in the hook. Howard the Duck (talk) 23:13, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
These are practically empty and can be redirected to the main varsity team articles. Howard the Duck (talk) 23:16, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I will go ahead and reinstate the redirects since I initially added them in before they were all moved to draftspace. MarcusAbacus (talk) 16:24, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Good morning Team, please can you help me create a dedicated Wikipedia Article about “Benjamin Angeles”. He is known as a Filipino Singer-songwriter on google search. Please help me. Thank You! ~2026-25403 (talk) 02:48, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Only credible source I could find so far about him is this Manila Times article; so far this fails WP:PERSON as even if he is popular at least with some circles that does not guarantee notability. Blake Gripling (talk) 03:10, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with Blake, he’s not notable at this point. But we do have a music task force that creates music-related articles, and you can put a request here: Articles for creation D-Flo27 (talk) 10:22, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not spam multiple pages with edit requests such as this and be transparent as to any links you may have with the subject. I recall a similar wave of requests being made a few days ago on several article and user talk pages by another TA. Borgenland (talk) 16:04, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! A few months ago, I began working on a draft for the Timeline of the Philippine Basketball Association. If you can help contribute to this draft, it is much appreciated since this is a bigger undertaking than the Timeline of the Premier Volleyball League I did last year. The only potential issue would be finding sources for the earlier teams and specific name changes. MarcusAbacus (talk) 16:56, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Douglas MacArthur for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets the featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare “Keep” or “Delist” in regards to the article’s featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Z1720 (talk) 17:05, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Is this an accurate map of the 1898 Treaty of Paris borders? It’s cureently being used at Territorial disputes in the South China Sea#History. Do note that its uploader, Toto11zi (talk · contribs), has been involved in articles that are highly sensitive to the People’s Republic of China, including Tibet, Dalai Lama, Scarborough Shoal, and Succession of the 14th Dalai Lama. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib’s.) 08:50, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Do also note that Toto11zi also uploaded a local map that was very, very controversial because it had the intent of WP:POVPUSHING; see both Talk:Exclusive economic zone of the Philippines#File:Ph EEZ Map.png and Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2025 July 19#File:Ph EEZ Map.png. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib’s.) 08:53, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

 Done notifying the uploader. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib’s.) 09:04, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

See also Special:ListFiles/Toto11zi: map/s that may have POVPUSHING issues. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib’s.) 09:15, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

It indeed is accurate, but the usage of the file in Territorial disputes in the South China Sea is highly misleading as it excludes omitted lands clarified in the Treaty of Washington (1900) which included non-controversial islands in Sulu also. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 12:12, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Hariboneagle927 can you check the instances of the file’s use at Scarborough Shoal and Treaty of Paris (1898)? JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib’s.) 12:50, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Both captions are poor, and it seems mostly irrelevant to Scarborough Shoal. CMD (talk) 13:29, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Chipmunkdavis I’ve reverted the usage at Scarborough Shoal. It’s an addition by Bento38 (talk · contribs). Bento38 must have discussed first if the addition of the map is relevant to the article as a whole. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib’s.) 09:53, 13 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

There are discussions at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Pacita Complex National High School and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sampaguita Village National High School that may be of interest to this WikiProject. Borgenland (talk) 16:10, 13 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
