Hello fellow wikipedians,
In several articles,I’ve removed mentions of specific, low-level military units (like battalions, regiments, or company-sized elements) while generally retaining the names of higher formations like brigades and divisions.
Operational Security and Privacy is the primary reason. Detailed information about the deployment and composition of specific small units can be considered sensitive. While often available in news reports, aggregating it on Wikipedia makes it easily accessible in a way that could potentially compromise operational security or the personal privacy of service members. We should err on the side of caution. Mentioning a brigade provides sufficient context without delving into overly specific details.

For example, in articles involving Indian Armed Forces, Pakistan Armed Forces and Nepal Armed Forces, it’s rare to see specific battalion or regiment names mentioned unless it’s absolutely critical to a historically significant event. Typically it has mentioned the brigade or division level. We should apply this same standard consistently across all military articles to maintain neutrality and secrecy. Another thing I would like to point it out, as a person who is related with the armed forces, the military units are often shifted from one place to another. Paramilitary forces also follow the same rule.
Another thing I would like to mention here, paramilitary forces like Border Guard Bangladesh has revealed all of its’ battalion’s location in public domain (VIA Facebook, national news). Hi, I wanted to try my hand at making my own page: Draft:Air_Parabat, but some of the dates do not line up with sources. The page List of defunct airlines of Bangladesh state that Air Parabat started in 1993 and ceased operations in 2001, while some other places say that it started in 1994 as Air Parabat Flying Academy and its operations as a private sector airline started in early 1998. There is also the fact that the airline ceased operations in 2001 but a crash was reported in 2002. However, i do think that that is about the flying academy which i can’t find anything more on. Also the issue of it being a flying academy confuses me as I’m not sure if I should seperate the accidents into two categories. What dates should i be using?
