Hi. Happy to help out around here. I’m a former club secretary at semi-professional level and have been a sports journalist. If there’s anything I can help with, let me know. Normfletch (talk) 18:26, 4 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Are there any reliable player stats sources for semi-professional level that you know of? Coverage can be very patchy. EchetusXe 01:25, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No, that’s still a major problem for clubs trying to research signings. Stats, where available, largely come from clubs themselves and so there’s no standardisation and concerns about accuracy. Normfletch (talk) 07:04, 5 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Since this player was born in Portugal (he did spend some time with his father in Brazil as a child), played football ONLY in Portugal as both a youth and a senior (i just found this source https://ge.globo.com/futebol/futebol-internacional/noticia/2025/10/24/filho-de-ex-palmeiras-segue-os-passos-do-pai-e-se-destaca-em-portugal.ghtml, which i now will retrieve to the article; it says the trial at Fluminense FC was a failed one), and since he has spoken to several medial outlets of his desire to represent the Portugal national team (please see https://www.record.pt/futebol/futebol-nacional/liga-betclic/gil-vicente/detalhe/pablo-pisca-olho-a-selecao-nacional-nasci-aqui-esse-sempre-foi-o-meu-sonho-sempre, https://www.flashscore.pt/noticias/futebol-liga-portugal-betclic-pablo-gil-vicente-declara-se-sempre-tive-o-sonho-de-jogar-por-portugal/ARDQpVO9/, https://sapo.pt/artigo/pablo-volta-a-assumir-o-sonho-da-selecao-o-documento-esta-prestes-a-sair-e-eu-escolho-portugal-68fbbe0d36c84c1df4b11a4d and https://maisfutebol.iol.pt/selecao/selecao-nacional/pablo-sempre-tive-o-sonho-de-jogar-na-selecao-portuguesa; oh, and in this one https://www.abola.pt/noticias/continuidade-impulsiona-epoca-de-sonho-do-gil-vicente-2025111618505950073?srsltid=AfmBOopZiQ7356amDKVaH_fIpObOLp8ZhWniaYtpAOxEjgZhXSIXTQJs, where even though it does not mention the Portugal NT specifically, one can read, about Mr. Pablo, “Com 887 minutos e oito golos, o avançado português tem sido decisivo”, meaning “With 887 minutes and eight goals, the Portuguese forward has been decisive”!), how accurate is it do describe him as Brazilian? Seems wrong as can be if you ask me, and not because i say so, but per WP:FOOTY guidelines.

Additionally, i seem to presently be engaging in a sort of edit war with a fellow user, who now wrongly added (AGAIN, per WP:FOOTY guidelines, i’m not making anything up) “…is a Brazilian and Portuguese footballer who plays for…”. After my additions, i have to strive for coherence and revert to “Portuguese footballer” in intro, but afterwards i will stop editing there until more opinions are written here.

  • West Ham say he’s Brazilian [1]
  • The BBC says he’s Brazilian [2]
  • So do ESPN [3]
  • And the Telegraph [4]
  • and multiple other sources…
  • I would expect the club that has just signed him to know his nationality, wouldn’t you? Regardless, it’s not as simple as that. Do we know his citizenship? If his father was Brazilian he could well have Brazilian citizenship. I don’t think we know … do we? Black Kite (talk) 15:24, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • According to this article written by his current club he was born in Portugal while his father was playing for Braga, moved to Brazil when he was 1 year old, played junior football in Brazil, and then he moved to Portugal when he was a teenager. OblongBubbles (talk) 15:38, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
WP:FOOTY guidelines cannot override MOS:NATIONALITY, which says mentioning 2 nationalities is allowed when it is appropriate. Spike ’em (talk) 15:52, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
And there is always the option of omitting nationality completely in the lead where is is unclear or disputed. Spike ’em (talk) 15:54, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Then the best approach would be omit it while he does not play for any NT, IMO. After that we can adapt the intro according to what NT he plays for. BRDude70 (talk) 19:24, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. Similar to his teammate Aaron Wan-Bissaka. OblongBubbles (talk) 19:33, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
  • Except that, very clearly, most reliable sources describe him as Brazilian, including the official website of his current club. That suggests to me that he has Brazilian nationality, but at the moment we simply don’t know; so there should be no nationality in the lead sentence of the article. Black Kite (talk) 13:00, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I am curious why there is no mention of duel nationality here. Govvy (talk) 14:16, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Again, very possible … but we simply don’t know. Black Kite (talk) 08:51, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Can I join please? 🥺 Mickey mouse 129 (talk) 18:42, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, add yourself to the list. EchetusXe 20:55, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve just had a look at that list, a lot of people on there are supporting national teams whose links point to disambiguation pages (e.g. Hack with Australia national association football team, Sebisthlm with Sweden national football team etc. I assume they are mostly to do with the senior male teams but were renamed because of weakened primary topics compared to others in recent years. At Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Members, click “edit source” next to the “Active members” section heading. You can then copy-paste the newest entry, 558, and change the data. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:24, 8 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone who’s good with templating add an option to suppress the national-team wikilink on {{fb-big}}? I noticed this on Homeless World Cup, that in several sections, there are automatic links to the (standard) national team, which is inappropriate in that case. There are other flag-icon templates that either just don’t wikilink or at least have an option to turn them off, but they don’t have the sizing and centered text of {{fb-big}}, which would make updating that article more onerous. —BDD (talk) 22:06, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everyone,

I am a german user, who recently created the page SSV Ehingen-Süd (in german). Ehingen-Süd is a small football club from a town in Southwest Germany and I wanted to upload the logo from them but I’m not sure if that is possible due to copyright laws. The logo is not being used too often but I don’t want to get into any trouble so I would like to ask here:

Am I allowed to upload the logo or what do I have to do, so I could upload the logo?

Thank you for your help in advance!

Kind regards, KrebsL (talk) 08:57, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Roughly, you can use copyrighted logos, but only in the club’s infobox. You need to add {{non-free use rationale logo}} and {{non-free logo}} to the image. See WP:LOGOS for more info. Note, this is true for en wiki, I’m not certain the same applies at de. U003F? 09:45, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Me and SuperJew are in edit conflicts over categorising a league by continent, figured it should be talked about here. Now firstly, as far as I’m aware there hasn’t been any clarification on how to categorise a league (or any football-related page) by continent. Of course it sounds simple by simply just connecting the page to what continent it’s part of, though the confusion arises when FAs aren’t part of a confederation that governs their continent they’re part of. As a perfect example; the A-League Women; the one we are fighting over. The league takes part in Australia; a country of Oceania, though Australia’s governing body; Football Australia is a member of the AFC; which governs football in Asia. Here is my take here: I cannot agree that leagues taking part in a specific country-to-continent translates to categorising it based on the country’s membership in a confederation. I get that the leagues won’t match up to how they play continental-wise (e.g. Israel/Asia in UEFA, Australia/Oceania in AFC) because of the confederations and their members, but because of they way the categories are named (“in Asia”, not “of Asia” or “AFC leagues”); what the tree is generally meant to strive on (“by continent”), to put it simply: it should all remain by continent, not organization. FastCube (talk) 09:47, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Categorise by Continent – clearly, as there will be alignment for nearly all other sports, which is the function for the category. Same for Israel, which correctly appears in Asia not in Europe. Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:13, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Categorize by confederation – it would otherwise cause issues with transcontinental nations (Russia, Turkey, Armenia, etc…). Nehme1499 (talk) 15:23, 10 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
