- Nominator’s rationale: Follow-up to this discussion. The category for English-language films is crowded enough that it is OK to diffuse it by continent and country. However, the intersection of language and region of production does not appear to be notable, especially if it is just a container of national categories. There are no such categories for other languages than English, or for other regions. Place Clichy (talk) 22:10, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

- Nominator’s rationale: Containers of national categories at the level or regions (rather than e.g. continents) are not useful. They don’t bring anything in terms of navigation (nothing more than the continent-level structure anyway) and they are inherently POV, because there are many different conflicting definitions of such regions. This results in overlap, which kills the purpose of navigation. Only 2 articles there (Níð and Association of Nordic and Pol-Balt LGBTQ Student Organizations), which fit in Category:Nordic society in addition to LGBT topic categories. Category:Filmmakers who won the Best Film BAFTA Award
- Nominator’s rationale: This category is incorrectly named per WP:NONDEFINING. More specifically, it uses an unreasonably broad invented term “Filmmakers” instead of “producers” and “directors”, the terms actually used in the category’s correspondent article, BAFTA Award for Best Film. It seems that the category’s current name is not appropriate and it should have been named Category:Directors and producers who won the Best Film BAFTA Award instead. However, I am proposing a different name, as this category has been reserved only for producers for the past 26 years. Quote from the main article, “since 1998, only producers have been counted as winners and nominees in this category.” This is confirmed by the official BAFTA Film Award Rules and Guidelines which determined: “Eligibility is limited to the producer(s) of the film” and also clarified that “Executive producer, co-producer, associate producer, line producer, ‘produced in association with’ or any other credits are not eligible” (let alone the directors). BAFTA rules (p. 11). There are only nine out of 106 individuals sorted to this category who indeed won Best Film as directors and not producers. They are, in chronological order, Billy Wilder, Mike Nichols, Fred Zinnemann, Peter Weir, Martin Scorsese, Alan Parker, Mike Newell, Ang Lee, and Anthony Minghella. Still more importantly, none of them really should be in this particular category because they simultaneously placed into a related Category:Directors of Best Film BAFTA Award winners, which makes their inclusion here pointless. My proposition is to remove the directors out of this category as they are basically being counted twice for no reason (making this also the case for overlapping categories per WP:OVERLAPCAT) and leave it exclusively for producers of winning films which would reflect actual BAFTA rules (under proper name). Or, as an alternative, delete this incorrect category altogether and create a separate category for producers (given that such a separate category for directors is already created). Creating a unique category (it must be taken into account that Wikipedia doesn’t have other similarly designed award categories) in order to forcibly merge 97 producers with nine directors is completely impractical and not helpful for navigation, especially considering that the directors have already been grouped into more appropriate categories. It is worth noting that in all similar cases, Wikipedia editors chose to distinguish directors from producers into separate categories even if they were winning the very same award. LordTort (talk) 17:23, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
- Support/Comment The proposed name matches the actual article contents and reflects the wording of the BAFTA website. Winning a BAFTA is defining, one of the few awards that is. (The sibling cat, Category:Directors of Best Film BAFTA Award winners, is not nominated but should be renamed to follow this format.) – RevelationDirect (talk) 23:43, 2 October 2025 (UTC)

- Comment Let me explain why that category was not part of this nomination. I created related cat, Category:Directors of Best Film BAFTA Award winners, after conducting a thorough research of all similar categories contained within the Category:Film directors by award. There were exactly 25 categories meeting criteria; all of them were named according to the [Directors of Best + X Award] format with none following [Directors who won the Best + X Award]. This naming convention allows the category to be sufficiently flexible, as it is equally suitable for cases when the directors actually win the award for Best Film as well as the cases where they simply directed the winning film. Besides, it also allows maintaining consistency with the parent category per WP:C2C. That’s why Category:Directors of Best Film BAFTA Award winners should be preserved as it was modeled after parent Category:Best Film BAFTA Award winners. If you look at the ‘Directors of Best Film BAFTA Award winners’ category, it currently includes all 62 directors whose films won the Best Film BAFTA Award however only 14 of them eligible to be placed in the potential Category:Directors who won the Best Film BAFTA Award because in most years it is the producers and not the directors who win for Best Film, while in some years it was the film itself according to BAFTA rules set forth in the main article. I think the best solution here would be to keep the ‘Directors of Best Film BAFTA Award winners’ category under its current name, and leave it to the main article (BAFTA Award for Best Film) to explain who among the directors actually won the award and who simply directed the winning film (basically the article is already emphasizing that distinction). There is no particular need for a ‘Directors who won’ category because that name would put it out of sync with all the other similar categories that have already been created and even more importantly, the main article already stated quote “Between 1960 and 1961, 1966–1969, and in 1980; Only directors [of Best Film BAFTA Award winners] received the award and nomination,” and then “Between 1988 and 1997; Both producers and directors [of Best Film BAFTA Award winners] received the award and nomination.” Having an entire category for just 14 individuals is unnecessary, as it would simply duplicate an already established and more developed category. Category:Catholic chapels
-
- Nominator’s rationale: WP:OVERLAPCAT
- We have a whole category tree for Category:Roman Catholic chapels with subcats and hundreds of articles. In contrast, the parent Category:Catholic chapels contains only a single direct article, Oratory (worship), and that is already well categorized. (Maybe this was an attempt to remove the word “Roman” like with Category:Catholic church buildings, but the right approach would be a rename proposal here at CFD for the whole tree, not a single duplicate category.) – RevelationDirect (talk) 00:09, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
-
- No opinion on the shorter name except that just changing the parent would put it out of sync with the 40 subcategories which all include “Roman”. I did tag the parent category to give the closer more flexibility and have no objection if you want to expand the nom further and tag the subcats. – RevelationDirect (talk) 10:42, 26 September 2025 (UTC)
