cite errors are caused by the reference clean-up. some points in the article were over-referenced since most of the information is based on concrete facts and reliable sources. i missed some points on removing the reference tags and hoped a bot would do the deed. 1337.d4nd135 (talk) 17:50, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to add a section cleanup template because the Evolution and phylogeny section mostly doesn’t cite sources. The edit summary I tried to submit is: “I cannot verify the existence of any “Hunuanoceras” in paleobiodb.org, http://taxonomicon.taxonomy.nl, www.marinespecies.org, or Google”. I had planned to later add a Disputed template to the first sentence about “Hunuanoceras” because all other mentions of this name are seemingly copied from Wikipedia, and it’s probably a typo for Hunyuanoceras (syn. of Sinoeremoceras), Hunyuenoceras (Ellesmerocerida, possibly itself a typo for Hunyuanoceras), or less likely Hunanoceras (Tainoceratidae). However I didn’t because I planned to start a Talk section about that first. I have a shared IP address that changes frequently and I have no control over the actions of other people who temporarily share my IP. You were welcome too add citations, but given that the section already has a number of citations, a “more citations needed” tag without explanation is not helpful. I do not have any citations to add, although I tried to find them. Are you saying that statements with zero cited sources should never be tagged with citation needed anymore? I do not understand why citations are not required. OK. What should be done about the 5 other sentences and 1 dependent clause [in that section] that also cite no sources? Is it actually better to put multiple “citation needed” tags into a single section or a single paragraph? I had thought I was supposed to avoid doing that.
