List of Olympic medalists for Malaysia (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- Nominator(s):
🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter")06:22, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
I am nominating this for featured list because this list is a comprehensive and accessible list which is worthy of FL status. This list mentions all of Olympic medalists from the main Olympics, Youth Olympics, and demonstration games. All of the content in the list is sourced, and it has an engaging lead and history section. It also is accessible with recommendations from my previous nomination. I created and nominated this list because of a support vote from the previous nomination. Thanks, 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter") 06:22, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
- “Malaysia made its debut at the Olympics at the 1956 Summer Olympics, the delegation did not gain a medal in their first five participations” => “Malaysia made its debut at the Olympics at the 1956 Summer Olympics, but did not gain a medal in their first five participations”
- There’s no reason to have a capital B on badminton (this occurs in multiple places)
- “The delegation never gained a gold medal” => “The delegation has never gained a gold medal” (unless Malaysia has permanently stopped entering the Olympics)
- Link Malaysia in body as well as lead
- Link Razif and Jalani Sidek in body as well as lead
- Link 1956 Summer Olympics in body as well as lead
- Can we explain briefly why Malaysia did not compete at the Olympics until 1956?
- “After a 12-year drought of medals in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics,” – this reads weirdly. Suggest simply “After failing to win any medals at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics,”
- “through Lee Chong Wei, who nearly won against Lin Dan.” – who nearly won what event? How did Wei “nearly win”? Who is Lin Dan?
- “gained the first bronze medal in Diving that same year” – no reason for capital D on diving
- “four silver medals and one bronze medal was gained” => “four silver medals and one bronze medal were gained” (“was” is the singular form of the noun so not appropriate when the subject is plural)
- “In the 2020 Olympics, a bronze medal and a silver medal was gained” – same here
- “the silver being the first silver medal for Cycling through Awan” – no reason for capital C on cycling
- “The delegation never gained a gold medal” => “The delegation has never gained a gold medal”
- Awang image caption should show his name in full and not have a capital C on cycling
- Tables should sort based on surname, not forename
- “Malaysia had three medals from participants in a Mixed team” => “Malaysia has three medals from participants in a mixed team”
- Also, at which Olympics (youth or “normal”) were the mixed team medals gained?
- “Malaysia gained three silver medals and four bronze medals from demonstration sports; the following are medalists in the demonstration games:” => “Malaysia has gained three silver medals and four bronze medals from demonstration sports.” (no need for the “the following…..” bit)
- As an aside……”I created and nominated this list because of a support vote from the previous nomination” – as per the instructions at the top, you should not nominate another article until the previous one has substantial support, not just a single !vote, but I had already written all those comments above before I noticed this, so I will leave them here anyway — ChrisTheDude (talk) 07:42, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- @ChrisTheDude: Fixed everything except:
- Badminton capitalization on tables: I think this is suitable already.
- Explanation on how Lin Dan nearly won: I do not think it is mentioned in the source.
- Tables should sort based on surname, not forename: In Malaysia, there is no surname or forename.
- Olympics for Youth: I thought they were already mentioned by the year column.

- @ChrisTheDude: any more comments?
- @ChrisTheDude: Fixed everything except:
1. The word “gain” is used three times very close to eachother in the lead, could you replace at least one of them?
2. “in the Olympics at the 1956 Summer Olympics at Melbourne sending a total of 32 athletes” – change to “in the Olympics at the 1956 Summer Olympics at Melbourne, sending a total of 32 athletes”
3. “first silver medal from Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock who participated in badminton…” – change to “first silver medal from Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock, who participated in badminton…”
That’s it, I’ll check the article again once these issues are fixed and hopefully support Crystal Drawers (talk) 12:24, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Crystal Drawers: fixed.
🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter")12:34, 16 September 2025 (UTC)- Excellent! Very nice job on the list, happy to support
- Also, consider checking out my FLC (if you have the time, of course, no pressure!) Crystal Drawers (talk) 12:37, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
Image and source review
[edit]
- File:Flag of Malaysia.svg – PD alt should be see caption, as it substantially duplicates it. MOS:ALTINCAPTION
- Lee Chong Wei picture should have an alt, something like “A man jumping and hitting a badminton birdie”
- Cycling image also needs an alt
- Notes should have citations
-
- Removed the notes: there is no need since it is shown in the article.
- File:Lee Chong Wei in the 2012 Summer Olympics (3to4 portrait).jpg – CC BY-SA 2.0
- File:Cycling at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Men’s sprint 1-32 finals – 20.jpg – CC BY 4.0
- All the icons are PD, except Wushu which is CC BY SA 3.0 but it seems to geometric to even claim that so it might even be PD
- 1, pass
- Small symbols should all have an alt which says see caption.
-
- Which ones? All? If all, there is no caption.
- archive all sources and indicate that The Star is paywalled with the red lock
- can link sixth source to CNA (TV network)
- A lot of em-dashes are being used [1] and [2], the kuala lumpur city source is suspicious for this reason, but this seems to be written before the tokyo olympics so this article is fine

- Nuggeteer, when you are done with fixing the issues the EasternSahara pointed out, make you that you ping ChrisTheDude is his section above. Reviewers don’t usually watchlist FLC review pages. –MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:00, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
More comments User:Easternsaharaplease review this and this 01:57, 28 October 2025 (UTC)
- The author of source 1 is Timesport
-
- Not an actual author, just a section of the website.
- “Five medals have been credited to Malaysia from the Youth Olympic Games; two are gold, three are silver, and one is bronze” first semicolon into colon
- Otherwise everything looks good but I was wondering if the Name section should be turned into Name(s) for those tables which feature multiple people for that parameter
- 2, 4, 5, 6, 10 pass
- 3 does not mention Lee Chong Wei in 2008, add olympedia reference otherwise good. Although I think it is very low quality and should be removed unless other sources can not provide such information
-
- Not low quality, just primary and it is used okay per WP:PRIMARY.
@TheNuggeteer: There are my comments, please implement what you see fit and ask me about the ones that you think are inappropriate. I would also appreciate a review at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of World Heritage Sites in Arab States/archive1, its gotten 4 already but another one would help get it promoted
- The Medal tally by sport tables look super awkward with some of the numbers left-justified and others centered. I would center them all. I might also reconsider the need for these tables considering the few number of sports lists.
-
- Based this on the Philippines lists; the numbers placed in the center are from the bolding.
- “Medals gained from the Summer Olympics” reads awkwardly. I would reword as “Medals won at the Summer Olympics”
