- Date: Saturday, 31 January 2026
- Time: 10-1pm
- Location: Auckland Museum Research Library, Auckland
This event will be centred on the working women of New Zealand and will contribute to the Women in Red Wikiproject! We will focus on editing stub or start-class articles of New Zealand women who have worked or still work in three key areas – Arts, STEM and Law & Politics.
Hosted by: Avawatson03, CuriosityKat33, SydneyBridgeUpsideDown, Goose276, Roobee11, and LadyRabbit
Everybody is welcome to this event, whether you are an experienced Wikipedian or a total novice! Just come with your own computer and a Wikipedia account. You may not be able to make an account on the day, so it’s best, and very easy, to create one before you show up. Have fun with the username, but avoid anything offensive or personal for your own privacy.
All attendees are expected to understand and abide by the Draft Universal Code of Conduct for the Wikimedia Movement.
No food is to be taken through or into the Museum and Library, only water in sealed bottles may be consumed in the space. Catering will be provided in a separate room towards the end of the event. Please bring your own computer with you, there are power outlets in the library if you would also like to bring your charger.
RSVP
We will begin our event with an introduction to Wikipedia and give a beginners guide on how to edit (so any newcomers are welcome!). We will also introduce the basics of Wikimedia Commons and image uploading.
Then we will get to editing! We will provide a ‘cheat sheet’ of stub or start-class articles to edit, alongside some relevant books from our Auckland Museum Reading Room. Tables will be dedicated to each subject area, so everyone can work collaboratively on their career path of choice!
After enriching Wikipedia’s Aotearoa New Zealand women’s history, we will have a celebratory catered lunch!
To contribute to stub and start-class articles about New Zealand women in STEM, politics, and arts fields.
If you enjoyed our event and want to keep editing with like-minded Wikipedians keep track of upcoming meetups in Auckland here: Wikipedia:Auckland Meetup
You can also join the Wikimedia User Group of Aotearoa New Zealand and keep an eye on the Wikipedia:New Zealand Wikipedians’ notice board to be kept up to date with Wiki activity in Aotearoa!
Women in Red is an international WikiProject which works to increase the representation of women on Wikipedia. Did you know that only 20% of English Wikipedia’s biographies are about women? Well, the Women in Red WikiProject is actively working to change this, and by joining our event you can contribute to this change!
