Project page to request technical page moves

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like “You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:…” or “The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:…”

• Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
• To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

• To request a reversion of a recent undiscussed move: Review the guidelines at WP:RMUM of whether a reversion of an undiscussed move qualifies as uncontroversial and if so, edit the Requests to revert undiscussed moves subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

Note that in some cases, clerks, such as administrators or page movers may determine that your request for a reversion does not pass the criteria and may move the request to the contested section or open a formal requested move discussion for potentially controversial moves on your behalf.

• If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
• If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the “discuss” button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page. A bot will automatically remove contested requests after 72 hours of inactivity.

• Template:Sovereign states of Europe → Template:Countries of EuropeTemplate:Countries of Europe (currently a redirect back to Template:Sovereign states of Europe) (move · discuss) – Consistency (WP:TITLECON), credits to PK2 for pointing out a similar issue with the Oceania template. All the other continental templates just say Countries, but for Oceania which is subject to PK2‘s move request for a similar reason.   Thanks for the ping and yes, I’ll contest this one. The 2010 RM discussion had a strong consensus to use “Sovereign states” rather than the less clear “Countries”, and this matches the titling on our articles across the project such as List of sovereign states and List of sovereign states and dependent territories in Europe. My suggestion is we standardise on using “sovereign states” for all such templates, to match the titles of the related articles, and avoid the persistent clamouring for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to be listed alongside sovereign states since they’re all countries.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:45, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

• Hezbe Wahdat → Islamic Unity Party of AfghanistanIslamic Unity Party of Afghanistan (currently a redirect back to Hezbe Wahdat) (move · discuss) – The spelling “Hezbe Wahdat” is inaccurate, since that’s not how Dari Romanization works, there too exists other English titles of Afghan political parties like “National Islamic Party of Afghanistan” instead of “Junbish-i Milli”. • Template:Countries and territories of Oceania → Template:Countries of OceaniaTemplate:Countries of Oceania (currently a redirect back to Template:Countries and territories of Oceania) (move · discuss) – That’s because the other continent’s countries or sovereign states navbox templates don’t include the words ‘dependencies’ or ‘(dependent) territories’ in their titles.   My preference would be to rename this to Template:Sovereign states of Oceania. This matches the overall format of the List of sovereign states article and is much preferable to the less rigorously defined “countries” term. I’m not too fussed on whether “and territories” should be included, but would lean towards not including it per other such categories, even if it does happen to put the dependencies in as well.  — Amakuru (talk) 11:48, 7 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  The related template for that list is Template:Lists of sovereign states and dependent territories by continent, the related article for the template in question being List of sovereign states and dependent territories in Oceania. Examples of other templates within the same framework: Template:Countries of South America (titled: “Countries and dependencies of South America”), Template:Countries of North America (titled: “Countries and dependencies of North America”), Template:Sovereign states of Europe (titled: “Sovereign states and dependencies of Europe”), Template:Countries of Asia (titled “Countries and dependencies of Asia”), and Template:Countries of Africa (titled: “Countries and dependencies of Asia”). So there is certainly some leeway for a variety of different names and titles here, whether it be “Countries of” (like most of them) or “Sovereign states of” (like Europe).
